    Hi All,

I have a bit of a unique issue that I'm hoping you can help me solve. To make a long story short, I've been involved in a 8+ year prank war with a friend and it recently culminated with him getting a key to my house while I was on vacation. Once he was inside he found my truck key and fob and then proceeded to fill the entire interior with packing peanuts through the sun roof, threw garbage in the bed and covered it with the tonneau cover and then plastic wrapped the truck.

The issue is that he claims this ends the prank war because he went to the dealership and got a copy made of the FOB. So if I ever prank him back he will take my truck and just park it in random places. So I guess a few questions:

    1) Can you get a copy of the FOB (and/or a key ) made without taking the truck itself to the dealership or is he bluffing me? I know the truck didn't move but it's possible he took the FOB itself to the dealership (he showed me a pic of him outside the dealership holding it). Also are you even allowed to do this without proof of ownership? I'm in Canada if that makes a difference...

    2) If he did manage to make a copy is it possible to deactivate his copy or do I need to find a way to reprogram so only the FOB's I have will work? I looked through this thread but not sure if I can only deactivate IF I have all the active FOB's with me. I also have a compustar remote start so changing all the FOB's would be a real pain.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-do-i-disable-remove-a-key-fob.592075/

    3) Give me your best idea to get him back :D

Truck in question is a 2017 Tacoma TRD

    Thanks in advance!

I'd call the dealership immediately. I'd be fucking FURIOUS if they made a key for my vehicle for someone not me.

I have no idea if you can deactivate his fob, but I think I can safely say he's won the war unless you sleep with his mom and/or sister.

hopefully he was just screwing with you. if not and the dealer just made someone aside from the owner a key, I'd be raising a shit storm at the dealer.

Seriously? Have you ever had a key made that someone asked you to prove ownership?

At a dealership, yes absolutely, I had to show my registration.
To not ask for proof of ownership is a serious security issue.

:rofl:GREAT 1st post!... Not sure the exact price of a new fob, but do you think he'd be willing to spend the couple hundred $$ for the prank. Also, I'm not sure that the dealer would really do it without you or the vehicle... Anyway, good luck with the prank war!

He would DEFINITELY be willing to spend the money - we've probably both spent far more on these pranks over the years

Dealers around here require proof of ownership, but yes, they can make a key without the truck there.

Maybe get some wheel dollies and turn his car/truck sideways in the garage, so he can't back out.

I mean...if you actually want to get serious with this I'm sure you can get some great idea...but plausible deniability is my middle name and I will not be responsible for escalating this.
Hypothetically if a "friend 1" did something to another "friend 2", I would suggest "friend 2" to get some incriminating evidence about "friend 1" that could get him fired from his job, or break up the marriage/relationship. Now "friend 1" and "friend 2" are at a stalemate. Or did you want an actual suggestion? Also how far are you guys planning on taking this because it could go south very quickly

All your friend had to do was tell you he made the copy. Even if he later says he did not , you will never really know for sure . The only way to be sure now is to pay up and have it changed .
Before we all feel bad for you , what was the worst prank you did to him ?

Wife should be off limits, but mom and sister(s) are fair game
