I thought it changes pretty fast after new fluid. that initial air contact or whatever makes the fluid darken.

either that or the dealer service department didn't bother doing a flush (which I paid for) when they did the axle seals.

Okay guys so today we got some snow and I used 4 wheel for the first time since I bought it it’s a 1997 Tacoma 3.4 auto . I was going about 10mph when the truck started hopping a little nothing to troubling no nasty sounds so I’ve been trying to figure this out . I know my front diff has the Auto Disconnect but the pickup has manual locking hubs and they’re both damn near impossible to turn over . Thoughts ?

If you have manual hubs then you don't have ADD, ADD is what the non-manual hub trucks have

Do you have the hubs in the locked position when going into 4hi? Was the ground surface icy/snowy or dry pavement when the hopping happened?

I don't know much about manual hubs ie what would happen if you put it in 4hi without the hubs locked. But if you cant lock/turn the hubs you might have to take them apart

Maybe someone converted it from ADD to manual hub, I don't know...someone more familiar with manual hubs and the older ADD system is gonna have to chime in

Wonder if someone converted it from add to manual and left the actuator in? If that's possible, IDK

Yeah for sure , I’ve got to come to a full stop and I engage 4 wheel and I feel it engage for sure the light comes up on the dash and that’s with the hubs on the free position , and they’re both troublesome to move

The truck gets weirder and weirder the more I dig into it it has an e locker and had no wiring harness so immediately look into front and rear diff ratios and they’re matched . So yeah
