A few additions to make me feel cool.
I have one friend I could see something like this happening with. I am a little jealous to be honest. With my buddy and I it is primarily verbal abuse. Our game is finding a way of sneaking the others Christmas gift into the others house without the other knowing. Keep in mind we live a little over 500 miles apart. My best so far was tethering a note (laminated) to the bottom of a five gallon bucket, freezing said bucket then having it delivered by his neighbor on Christmas morning, as it was not in his house he called foul but..... The first clue led him on a series of clues all over his house where he finally got the gift. It was an ice pick! I placed in his toolbox he could have used to get the the original note. The real gift was a new pair of custom Okleys in his truck and an engraved Benchmade but that's the kind of shit we pull.

Hence the trail camera's in my house that my wife has to explain to her friends! My gift this year was buried under a paver on my patio and the first clue was mailed to me and somehow the location was disclosed on a note in tank on the back of the toilet in my sons bathroom.

Thank you! I called the dealership and they basically told me the same thing so at worst I'm thinking he can get into the cab but no way he can actually start the vehicle. Most likely, I think he took my FOB and got the pic outside of the dealership and is trying to bluff me

The dealer can flash the smart key system and reprogram just the keys you want to the truck.

BUT they can’t program a Tacoma smart key without the truck, so if you are sure your friend didn’t take the truck than he is bullshitting you.

The only thing they can do to a key without the truck is UNprogram it.

trust me, I know a thing or two about these keys.;)

To actually answer the original OP.

Requires the truck to program another smart key to the truck to start the engine.

Obviously to make the metal key copy just takes the key.

You can add another brand new smart key to the truck (relatively expensive) without cancelling the old keys (with the truck, a new key, techstream, and an existing key)

To add a used smart key or cancel all the existing smart keys, requires techstream and tokens purchased online, and all they keys you want to reprogram. To reprogram keys here is a reference

He stole my keys off my desk I think and made a copy of my house key - I (stupidly) left the truck keys in the house on a convenient hook by the door so it was easy pickings

Thanks! Read a few of your threads before I posted this - very informative and will probably add that passenger door handle at some point

@tyeety I think what you need to do is get into his house and flip everything he has upside down. Next take needed belongings and put them in Jello (tv remote, any keys, toothbrush, etc...). Turn off the water heater, switch the hot/cold lines leading to the shower, and remove all the toilet paper from the house.

Well seeing how far this has gone and some severe lack of friendly games, have you considered the men seeking men sections online? Sens it to his phone, email, pager, BlackBerry, facebook what the hell ever.

Probably already done by one of you two sick fucks before though
