Painting a 2017 Stock Grill

I derped the grill on my 2017 Tacoma when I got it. Some of that is starting to wear off now and I want to paint it when the weather gets better.

Any recommendations to the type of paint and do I need to put a clear coat on it as well? I am hoping to achieve a matte black finish on the whole thing.

I used a plastic primer after I scuffed to the best I could. Then rattle can bedliner. Been a couple years and still looks pretty damn good.

 

How many coats did you use? I did the same thing to my '16 when I picked it up and it still looks good. Still go with the paint though. I too will be doing this in the future

 

I don't remember how many coats I used...I've had lots of sleep between then and now.

 

I've painted mine with VHT Cast Iron, it makes a tough matte textured finish;

Did you use any primer or scuff it up prior to painting?

I used to fix a few nicks. It is a bit thicker than we need for touching up. I don't know if it can be thinned out, but it is 90% better than the shiny spots that I had and not noticeable from any distance.

 

clean it, scuff it a bit, clean it again, dry it, paint it.
I've used this paint on wheels over primer and it works nice, keep the cans shaken and don't spray them right to the end of the can..
