If OP is running 20% offroad I'd highly recommend the OR for the locker alone. Also who knows how he wheels ? Same price get the locker and if you manage to out drive the stock suspension upgrade to billies and still have that locker

True it really depends on what kind of off roading too, everyone’s definition is different but ya I’d go OR and just change our shocks to stiffen road ride if need be.

I think most people spend 80% of their time on pavement at least if its a daily driver

Agreed I was giving OP a hard time buying an off road performance trimmed truck given the amount of on road time.

I have to be the guy to say a manual transmission will solve all those problems. I just drove 6 hours yesterday—comfortable and reasonably quiet with RPM about 2250 the whole way. Poor gas mileage though—18-19–but there was a headwind.

As far as towing, if you pull <4000 lbs and keep it in the right gear it’s fine.

Literally just got off the highway before writing that. Was a terrible drive with wind and lots of traffic and hills. So was angry lol. Just screams for almost an hour straight. This is also the first auto I’ve had in years. Always feels like I’m in the wrong gear in the taco. The taco manual trans had a funky spongy clutch feel and the reverse was odd to me. One of those things. Plus resale on the taco auto should be good next year before I get back into a Jeep or the Bronco.

    My 2 cents

I would do an extended test drive or rent thru the dealership rental company (most toyota dealerships will rent you a vehicle you are interested in buying).

I drive my sport for work & I still want to drive it on the weekend, good luck with the new truck purchase.

I did not like the wallowy feel of the stock OR bilsteins. An inexpensive upgrade to Billstein 5100s addressed all my complaints. Somehow the ride was both more planted, less wallowy, and less harsh all at once.

The 5100s are tried and true, relatively inexpensive, easy to come by, don’t require annual rebuilds, lifetime warranty as well.

The Off Road package is a better buy by far. You get functional equipment vs. looks. I bought the Sport, I know, I love the looks. I bought the truck with 15,000 miles on it at a Ford dealer when I was looking at a new F-150. I had no idea what I was buying, to be honest, just loved the way it looked and drove.

I too bought a 2020 OR but to be honest, not for the ride over the Sport. As I posted earlier I had a 2016 SR5 and really haven't noticed the difference in ride between the two. I also test drove both the OR and Sport and the decision was mainly on appearance rather than performance. I wasn't really fond of the scoop or the rims on the Sport but I have read posts that say the same thing about the OR. I haven't really noticed a "floaty" ride or it being "bouncy." I agree with OmahaJeff...."can't see any advantage to another suspension." But, I'm old and WTF do I know?

If the Colorado had a nicer interior, then I would have bought it over my 2020 off-road.

What do you mean you have more tire options? I thought there were more A/T tires for 16" wheels. Is that a misconception?

From my experience you have more options in 17. Take for instance the KO2s.

I suppose. For tires measured in inches (true 33s, 35s, 37s), I'd presume that there are more 16" options available. In the case of the K02, I think there are like 16 differnet 16" options and 26 different 17" options. Point taken.

Yep, you have better options as far as ply / weight especially in ATs, sure more tire is better off road and 16 is ideal, but for most of us mall crawlers I'd rather have the weight savings, though never had to worry about a flat when I was running my 10 plys, it just felt like driving a dump truck on the way to work.
