One can certainly kill it with nymphs. I find myself getting bored much quicker now doing that. And, probably more importantly, I'm back to fishing ponds more, where dries are money.

I tend to agree that a 7wt is too much rod for small/medium sized wild trout streams. kinda like wearing two rubbers lol no sensitivity.
    Most of the year :).
Winter can have the big boys laying deep in some fast water tho right?
I swing with an 8wt sinktip sometimes in these conditions but in June I might fish the same stretch of river with a 3wt

Lol some people hunt whitetail around here with a 300 win mag. I think they have more fun than anybody else no matter how many people tell them it’s too much gun :)

Would be a great rod for streamering on the yough and smallie fishing and Delaware shad runs and and....

I agree on Erie. Too many ass hats trying to catch them.

I guess I’m just used to throwing them on my 5wt.

Yough and smallies would be good.

I too throw an 8wt sinktip in the winter and early spring. When the water is cold or high and the fishing is slow, there's nothing better than dredging the bottom with meaty streamers. Great way to get the big boys and gals to eat.

The 7wt is nice on the Yough, the Clarion, the Little J, stuff like that.

It’ll Chuck a heavy ass triple nymph rig like 2 miles which is kinda cool.

Ramcatt to OP is beautiful. I’ve hiked and fished it a buncha times.

    I’m too poor to float.

Wear that life jacket. Don’t overlook the upper. I worked at the dam for a summer, decent fishing right below it.

My go to is an older Sage 590 -3SP. It has the backbone for big stones, 8 wt heads and the touch for tiny midges and nymph's. Best rod I own. Also have an 890-3SP that I rarely throw except winter steelhead or bass.

For sure on the life jacket :). I’m not gonna attempt the upper yough lol (the section in MD) it’s sustained class IV+, not really a fishing float :bananadead:
I think you’re talking about what us out of staters call the middle yough from the dam to ohiopyle right? I did it in a canoe once when I was a kid. Looked like good fishing. I’ll prolly need somebody in the front of the boat for balance, to open beers, and to fish just saying lol

The Middle Yough is the outflow down to the falls.

Upper is everything above the lake.

And the lower is from the falls to where it enters the Mon.

Sucks the Casselman is still polluted and the Yough doesn’t support any significant natural reproduction.
