Anti theft device update

In the right orientation, a tack is super useful and plenty strong.

 

And we are talking about tacking a head on a bolt so that its strong enough to break loose, what, the 20-30ish lb/ft we tightened the original bolt to?

 

For my diff drain bolt I needed much more than a tack weld. Good luck with that magic gel. And you're sillier.

 

You know the metals are dissimilar in the diff and subjected to a multitude of different environments right? Never mind heat cycles.

The trick is to tack and fender washer to the bolt, then a nut to the fender washer.

 

Exactly that.

 

I was wrong when I said a cutting wheel won't do it. I spoke too soon. The gel though, I'll argue for days on that one.

 

That gel works surprisingly well. Keep it in your mental toolbox

 

Angle grinder or sawzall would do the trick.

 

Either one will work, if you have to destroy the Anti theft devise to get your tailgate off do to accident, I'll replace it for free.

I don't, but only because I already put a job welded hose clamp on it. Not sure how hard it would be to take off

That's what I used for the longest time but got tired of looking at that cheap as hose clamp, that's what made me start making these Anti theft devices

 

Yeah tailgate theft is usually crime of opportunity. If it doesn't pop right off, they'll leave it and go on to the next.
