    What's a fair price for new shoes; Parts and labor? My body guy installed new shoes and lining for less than $190 in 2018. The axle seal explosion destroyed the left rear brake with only 22K on them, and the right brake had to be replaced as a matter of course.

    I am not sure brother, I always do these things myself so labor is never a consideration. I think shops charge like 100 per hour for labor for things which is highway robbery.

    The drums are new; After the stealership replaced my original drums with untreated bare steel drums, I bought coated/treated drums and my mechanic installed them. My mechanic sold me the drums at cost and installed them for a ridiculously low labor rate.

    Not my mechanic! He installed a new heater blower in my truck (which he got for $80 versus the $240 the dealer wanted for the same part), and didn't charge any labor!

    @shakerhood

    Random question; Do think your 1992 Mustang would pass an emissions test in Pennsylvania or a smog test in California with it's current performance modifications?

    I'm sure it would pass the sniff test in PA, but California is an entire different animal. I have a catalytic X Pipe and not sure it could get past their goofy visual test.

    California sucks...

    They used to have rolling inspections where only vehicles 30 years old and newer had to pass smog, but all vehicles 1976 newer must pass it! No antique plate loophole!

    Don't forget, I was born there! I lived there from March 1989 when I was born, to the summer of 1990; We moved back in the summer of 1996 and lived there until the summer of 1998. The life of a Navy brat!

    I love driving around with the windows down on a nice day, and I don't always feel like drowning out the noise with my stereo! Plus, I think I'm a bit more OCD that you...

    @shakerhood is saying that it's because I've probably got metallic shoes; Can the part be re-powdercoated or replaced?

    I am just guessing that you may have metallic shoes, if the squealing is bothering you then it would be worth it to change them as the cost should be minimal.

    What about replacing the parking brake part(s) that James is talking about?

    The handbrake is a pretty simple setup.

    James thinks that the powdercoating wore off of my parking brake due to age.
