whats up guys looking at getting a 3 inch lift. I want to go off roading and have my rig capable of doing that and going over-landing. Don’t want a spacer lift. Was looking at getting a Fox lift kit with spc control arms got quoted $4800 with installation and all the work done. Also was looking at icon stage 4. Are there anything else comparable to these lifts or should I just save up longer and get the trusted brands? Kind of looking just to get my lift kit and be done. Not wanting to go cheap now and it not be good enough later. What’s your guys experience with your lift and what do you do with it? Pictures would help. Thanks.

Whatever you decide, check out wheelwell.com. a few coupon codes floating around here. Wishlist500 gets you $500 off $1000 purchase.

Also marie from headstrong offroad just helped me out with suspension questions. Went above and beyond. Highly recommend talking to her before you make a decision.

Check out Accutune.com, they have complete kits available that they will custom tune for what you are building depending if you are going to add a front bumper and wench, skids, duel batteries, RTT, ect.

A year ago I hooked up Bold Overland and asked the same question. Their advice is before you upgrade the suspension figure out your adds. Meaning, skids, sliders and bumpers in other words anything thats gonna add weight. Then start looking at suspension setups. If you want 3 inches (or more) lift be sure to upgrade the upper control arms. The stock ones were not designed to handle anything more then 2”.

Me? After all that I went with ICON stage 3, FN 17” wheels and KO2 285/70/17.

Is this advice applicable to the TRD PRO? What's the best lift kit out there for someone who will mostly be driving on pavement but the setup will be capable and ready for the occasional light off roading? BTW I know I shoulda bought the OR trim but I didn't realize I would want the truck to sit higher and with bigger tires and aftermarket wheels til months after purchasing. I got my PRO for 43k.

Best not to get the Pro if you want to upgrade the suspension. That is literally what you pay for when you buy the pro. I just traded in my '18 TRD Pro for a '20 Off Road for this reason (and I wanted a long bed)... A fully loaded OR will cost a little less than a Pro and then you wont feel bad ripping out the suspension.

The only other difference the Pro has is the aesthetics; the hood, grill, headlights (with the "PRO" in them), tail lights, red stitching on seats, logo on head rests, and shifter knob.

If you like the aesthetics of the Pro and you would just buy that stuff anyway, then maybe it makes sense to buy the pro and swap the suspension. Who knows..

Food for thought, I dont miss the pro at all. And moving from the hoodscoop to the non-hoodscoop, I had no idea how much that scoop blocks your view of the road. I wont be upgrading my hood, especially when the hoodscoop is non-functional.

This was my experience with the Pro suspension: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-trd-pro-suspension-experience-why-i-am-upgrading.620316/

I went with a 2.5" lift and saved a ton of dough compared to going with kings. Don't get me wrong kings are the best. But I didn't have $3-4k to spend. Went this route and could not be happier. My front coilovers are wider/fatter than any 2.5 coilover.

    Bilstein 6112 front coilovers $700-$800
    Bilstein 5125 rear (extended 5100) $150 pair
OME Dakar medium leaf springs $450

I have lots of travel and can bomb through the desert. The truck really soaks up any dip or jump I've thrown at it. Just my experience.
