I am looking to paint the area around my dials on the climate controls as well as the area around the shifter. My question is how did people sand away the paint on the rough sections of plastic? Or did you just adhesion promoter and then paint?

It pulls straight out .... unscrew dials from the rear and you'll have a blank with three holes ... very simple.

^^^ not what the op asked about.

anyway you dont have to sand away the stock paint on the climate control/console just scratch it up enough so that the paint will stick. if you want you can use the promoter but just sanding should be fine just try and get in the low points as much as possible.

That pulls straight up just as well ...... remove the shifter knob ..... slow and easy .... 4 clips if recall right when I painted mine .... taped off area around "P R N D 3 2 L". Wasn't a big fan of the SR5 silver.

Photo really doesn't do it justice:

    more than list-able
another thing that you can do...i pretty much painted everything i could diss-asemble inside my truck flat black, another nice touch is to take off those silver rings around your guage cluster. they pop right out with something sharp. try it out!
