Yikes, sorry to hear. I'm with other folks suggesting to buy it back and keep it. Even if it's just to drive it around till you're ready to sell private party and get a new one.

If as you say the other driver was uninsured, do you have Collision coverage?

@Too Stroked yes I do. I have very good insurance with a $500 deductible. I am even covered for uninsured accidents, but I'm not sure how that works because I've never been in this situation before.

Talk to your agent, but I think you'll find that's exactly what that coverage is for. Good luck!

As for the bent frame, it might be able to be pulled out. If not, it's not like nobody's ever replaced a Tacoma frame before. The truck appears to be in great shape otherwise.

Frankly, people should be arrested and tossed in jail if unlicensed and uninsured until the innocent driver is made whole. Can't stand our legal system and courts that say ''well, we mandate all this but we won't actually do anything about it because we really don't care about you.''

Something else I just noticed. Bed seems to be pulled downward. Top photo is from June. Bottom photo is from today. Notice that the gap between the cap and bed is not even today. What could be damaged to cause this? Crawled underneath it and all the bed mounts look good. @pyrite4t3 was this what you were talking about?

Give your insurance company a call today and report the incident.

I would take the truck over to a reputable body shop today (pull your stuff out)

the body shop might need to dig into the truck a bit to verify the extent of the damage.

Start looking for trucks just like yours for sale (ammo to use against the insurance company if needed)

    Glad nobody was injured

That's a pretty good indication of a bent frame. Of course your original pics already showed the back end of it is bent.

    The frame is definitely bent.

These are great recommendations. Most insurance companies try to save money wherever they can, including giving their insured less for damages. With sought after vehicles like a Tacoma blue book values typically aren't accurate in the real world and insurance companies will try to use that to their advantage and the insured can fight that and win with a vehicle like a Tacoma. Even a totalled Tacoma is worth some good coin to salvage yards and to shady used car dealers.

It annoys the heck out of me - and I'm sure many others - that the frames on these trucks are so injury prone. A lot of these OMG damage reports - that wouldn't have made a dent in my old Chebby - really tells me that the Toyota engineers spent no brain power on this design at all.

I have personal knowledge of a lot of accidents in my area. It’s shocking how many accidents are caused by suspended or unlicensed drivers with no insurance on POS cars. I would venture a guess that it’s 35% of the cars on the road.

The suspended drivers typically go like this. They are driving around completely legal with a license and insurance. They get some piddly little ticket. No seat belt, running stop sign or something. Somehow they forget about their court date. DMV sends them a nasty notice, but since they moved awhile back and didn’t change their address with DMV, they don’t get the letter. Some time later, they’re driving along thinking they’re legal, they get pulled over, get a driving while suspended ticket and get the car impounded. After they pay to get the car out, they can’t afford anything else. They still have to get to the store, kids to daycare, etc., so they keep driving. Eventually, they figure out the federal ruling trick to make sure the car doesn’t get impounded, so now each time they get pulled over, it’s just 1 more ticket on top of the $6,000 they already owe.

It pisses me off that these dirtbags are driving around with no care about anyone else. Consequently, I pay lots of money to my insurance agent to protect everything I own, and to cover my ass if I have an oopsy and damage someone else’s property.

I agree. I fully intend to show them that local Tacoma's are going for 26-27k. Luckily I trust my insurance company. When I wrecked the ACLB 4 cylinder last January, they gave me almost $19k for it and it was approaching 90k miles. Hopefully they are as good this time.

Yes, if I was them in this scenario I would have been heavily cited and had to pay a lot of fines! Apparently the insurance lapsed in this case so the registration was revoked.

Absolutely agree as I too pay a small fortune (even with a spotless record) for vehicle insurance for my 2 vehicles. A chunk of that goes to cover folks who don't have insurance so that if they hit me, I'm covered. Now here's the part that galls me. If they do hit me, my insurance will cover what their insurance was supposed to - and my insurance will go up. Words fail me.

I'm angry just reading about unlicensed, unisured drivers like this!!

So sorry to hear that this has happened to you twice. Glad to hear that you're okay though

Awesome. Just curious, which insurance company do you have? Most insurance companies are absolutely horrible with claims and a couple of them are actually pretty good.

I have Hanover insurance, and honestly I can't say enough good things about them. They did raise my rate after the accident last January, but I fully expected that as I'm under 25 years old and it was a major accident. They did give me some rebates and discounts for paying on time which knocked about $100 off my premium.

It's good to know which insurance companies treat their customers as they should be treated. I've never worked with Hanover Insurance.
