its a computer controlling a mechanical function. i figured anything except the airbags was possible.

 

with power to both tires and a tracbar this truck drives completely different. we're about to get snow and im looking forward to some tests. thanks for the link @Norton and input @JustDSM

 

The bully dog has an option to uninstall the tune and re install the factory one. But I don't want to uninstall it unless Toyota can install the Trd flash. I really don't know who to call if Mabye someone knows a dealer that does it and see if they can call one of my dealers and explain it. Both dealers have no clue what a trd flash is

 

It was my understanding that you can’t undo the bully dog (BD) unless you have the HP tuner. There are several in the past who had to get a NA ECU to flash since BD could not be undone until HP came along.

 

It might re-install the stock NA tune but, as I understand it, a new/updated Calibration ID remains. Assuming that's the case, HPT is the only path to the TRD S/C tune about which I'm aware. TechStream decides what it can/can't do based on the Calibration ID, not the tune "contents," so it works only with "virgin" ECUs. (Before HPT was available, I had to buy a replacement ECU when Toyota was unable to install the TRD tune on my truck because it had been previously flashed with Toyota's own ping/knock reduction TSB, changing the Calibration ID!)

I've attached a portion of my invoice that shows the ecu update from Toyota of Sunnyvale. So you can hand-feed them numbnutz at the dealership that you're going to.

 

So I'm looking at used ECU's will a 2015 work on 2014 and is it as simple as just unplugging the one on and plugging the new one in? I see there about 150 used

 

Look at the part number on your ECU. Then order the same part number. These are pretty specific (model year, transmission, engine, etc)

It’s not impossible to run 2014 ECU on 2015. Just have a few more steps to go through. You can alway check with @JustDSM. He can hook you up with a tune. If you want to avoid the HP tuner, the easiest in my opinion is to get same part number ECU then install. Note that It’s not just plug and play, there are some other steps to take such as resync the immobilizer. I’m not sure if you also have to change the VIN # on the replacement ECU before Toyota will flash.

 

if you unhook the glovebox stick your phone up there and snap some pics. youll see it works well. takes 1 min.

 

You can run other year ECU's if you wish too, but if you want to keep everything on the "up and up", just use the same year/trans type. The truck will run with the wrong VIN programmed, but you'll want to have the dealer correct that when they do the TRD Update flash.

Now that HPT is available, however, I wouldn't rush straight to replacing the ECU (unless you get a great deal on the specific model/calibration you need). HPT and @JustDSM should be able to get TRD's stock S/C calibration (or an even better one) onto your current ECU.

 

@White lightning boosted you have to hold the traction button off for a few seconds to fully disable traction control intervention. You will typically see a light illuminated and then see the trac off light illuminate shortly after and that is your cue to roast em. Many vehicles are like this now where if you momentarily push it, it will not fully disengage nanny control.

 

I think that was only after a certain year for Toyota. My Lexus won’t fully disable but I know newer models will. I think 4Runners also didn’t up until maybe 2008.

 

I mean, you can always pull a relay. For off road use of course.

 

I have a TRD sport, and if I hold the traction control button for around 5sec, at a dead stop in neutral, it will turn all the driver aids off. Its epic. The truck with the squiggles lights up as well as some other light... I cant remember what it says but it allows for a lot more slip in my LSD.

EDIT: second light says AUTO LSD. This allows for exuberant wheel spin with no engine output limiting.
