Good luck tonight. The bad stuff hasn't made it to us yet. I added some ratchet straps to our little tree out front just in case :fingerscrossed:

How do you like the Statesmen? I have one but haven't cracked it yet... Along with a 1920. :anonymous:

It's really, really good. Sweeter and softer than the 1920, but still in the same vain. I just love everything from OF (except the rye :anonymous:).

But, wait, you haven't opened your 1920? That stuff is so, so, sooooooo good. Open it, dammit!

Birthday boy just killed the rest of my 1920.

The nose on this Statesman is amazing. It's light at first, but swirl it a little and keep at it and it just smells incredible.

    Big pours tonight.

Love the 1920! I grabbed a bottle a couple weeks ago and have been slowly enjoying it.

Lol! I know, I know. I seem to find (and buy) interesting bottles faster than I can drink them. I think rather than having the one big dram each night (like I see in one of your pics!) I should have a flight from several different bottles...

Speaking of drinking the good stuff... if one of them tarnaders wipes me out tonight then at least I will have had the last bit of this mythical whiskey before I go. The best whiskey I've ever tasted!

Oh for sure, Ol dusty's are definitely always cool! If for nothing else, bottle changes, label changes, the willpower it takes to save them. Especially if they have a year on them that is of importance. And yes the flavor profile will evolve with variances in weather while growing crops and storage/weather while aging over time but should remain mostly consistent for the mid range stuff.

My local Fry's grocery store had a raffle to win a bottle of Pappy van winkle. There was 31 bottles ranging from the 23 year to old rip 10. Over 500 tickets were handed out. I feel sorry for the regular shoppers there. I didnt win. Oh well. What I did do was buy a bottle of Bookers beaten biscuits and a bottle of Hibiki harmony. They offered free laser engraving. So I took them up on their offer. Those of you that know the movie Kill Bill will recognize the quote on the Hibiki. 20200111_142932.jpg 20200111_142844.jpg

I broke it open last night. Was surprised by the fiery finish to it. It mellowed out after sitting for a bit. Definitely liked it, but maybe a couple drops of h2o or an ice cube next time (which will be in about 20 minutes to celebrate the 49ers' win).
