Also, washer goes on bolt side, not nut side.

 

I'd be a leetle cranky and suspicious of the installer. Check other bolts minimum.

 

No bushing needed the carrier is different.

 

I know I am... going to make sure the rest are torqued down and check all the plugs on the diff

 

That's weird...I was emailing back and forth with Jon (ECGS) in late November and he recommended the CV bushing with the Harrop.

ETA- I'll be getting the CV bushing regardless because I don't want to have to deal with any issues after the fact.

 

Man i sure hope I don't have to pull this thing again. it's not even the vibration i'm worried about just the play in the cv regardless if it vibrates or not is what concerns me. the factory setup is a joke and is so sloppy i'll be pretty bummed if i still have to deal with that. Chase offered to send it to me with the tool but said he doesn't think it's necessary. From all i've heard he knows his stuff so i'm gonna give his word a shot.

 

If there are any issues I don't doubt that ECGS will take care of things. For the price of the bushing and since the clamshell is out of a vehicle (ie. on a bench), I'm not going to take that chance and just have them put it in. I've already done it in my truck and I don't want to have to deal with it again.

 

I don’t blame you. I did all the homework and asked all the questions I could. Even asked about this over the phone and was told I didn’t need it, I guess I’ll know for sure once I pop the cv into place and test it for play. If it’s there I’ll just have to pull it back out, say a few cuss words and delay my build some more.

Sorry to move this thread off topic. I sure can’t wait to feel the 5.29’s!

 

After the computer said that my range to empty was zero, it went another 50 miles before sputtering

 

Got the rear back in, just have to torque the drive shaft and bleed the brakes. Front clam all assembled and ready to go in Tommorrow.

Should be back on the road feeling the 5.29’s Tommorrow.

5:29 update: I recently towed 2,500 miles from WA to TX w/ about 90% of tow capacity and w/ about 95% of load capacity. I have the teraflex Falcon tow/haul shocks set on 3 and you can see they are working hard. Also, I run stock 30.5 tires on a 2019 OR 4x4.

Edit, the conservative tow capacity was more like 65%, the overall GCWR was around 82%.

Just wanted to let y'all know I average anywhere from 7mph (in the mountains) to 12mph (on a flat surface w/ a tail wind). I definitely wouldn't advise trusting the computers distance to empty....cut it way to close at one point in West Texas. I had less than 1/4 of a gallon left.

 

Updated my post with a higher speed trip review: Edit/Update: Driving 80-85 mph on the highway for 50 miles+ equated to 17.8 mpg. Truck loves that speed, holds speed uphill no problems and runs about 2500rpms it never shifted out of sixth the whole trip.

 

What size tires? My commute of 35 miles at 70mph on stock tires only nets 16mpg. I’m guessing when I upgrade to larger tires my mpg won’t change much at all if not actually increase just slightly

those skinnies seem to be where it’s at. I just got my truck back on the road yesterday. I’m curious what I’ll get with my 285’s.

 

How’s it driving.

 

took it on just a couple drives. Alignment feels good but might have to play with it a tad more. The cv shaft on the drivers side play that I was worried about is gone with the new Harrop. Driving wise around town it was hard to tell a difference. I’m jumping straight from stock to 33’s and 5.29 only drove on the 33’s twice before the regear for maybe 5 miles total.

I kept it slow on the drive home. Right at 50mph it was spinning around 1700rpm in 6th the whole way and never left it while I was on highway 4. pulled even at those rpms up some slight grades in 6th. I was super babying it.

I can’t wait to drive some more and really feel how she pulls out on the highway.

now I need to drive it some more to break in gears so I can tow my sled trailer. it’s Lightweight aluminum and probably only about 1100lbs with the sled on it. but deff wanna break these bad boys in a bit more before hauling it up to the sierras.

 

I just installed my rear ECGS 5.29 clamshell, still have to do the front later this week. After doing the rear, my dash is lit up with 3 warnings
1) traction control light is on
2) check brake system
3) check abs

I disconnected the battery for a re-set, no dice. I had to unplug two electronic connections to do the clamshell install, 2 plugs on the clamshell 1 was grey and 1 was black. I didn't take a photo but I have grey plugged into the top, and black plugged into the passenger side connection. I also had to remove electronic sensors behind the rear drum brake on each side. I think it's a speed or abs sensor. Instead of removing the plug, I pulled the whole sensor off as it was only held on by one nut. I did get some brake fluid on the those sensors, wondering if that is causing my problem. Does anyone have any advice?

-are the pugs on my clamshell correct, grey on top, black on the side
-could I have caused a problem by removing the sensor behind each drum brake

Do I have to buy a gasket from toyota to put on the housing when re-installing/putting together the housing of the 3rd member/rear diff during installation? Does stock diff have a gasket?
