On a positive note, damn I get a lot of compliments!

I met a couple up there who brought three spares, and used all of them. I think weight and driving style has a lot to do with it.

I didn't have a spare.

 

It’s the tire getting you attention. Gives you automatic overlander points. That’s why you see kids driving around with spares ratchet strapped to their roof

 

I didn’t find the road surface particularly sharp. My K02s didn’t looked chipped or damaged after. I think maybe the warning is for people in minivans on passenger radials.

A plug kit and a single spare is fine. The road is much more travelled than people lead you to believe. Help would arrive, at least in the summer, if you flatted multiple times.

There may be something to that. You're right, there isn't anything special about the road surface. I stopped to help 3 flat tires, 2 of them were regular pass tires, and the third was the guy I mentioned earlier - 2500 Dodge ram with a slide in camper. He even had overalls to wear while he changed tires.

 

Yeah. We travel pretty light in the Taco, so that may help. Also surface conditions were pretty bad, so our speed was way down.

 

Where are you guys from? Looks like an awesome trip from what I just minimally searched. But it's a 68 hour hike. Hell of a time commitment.

Blech. It was dry and dusty on the way up, but the ride back was super sloppy south of eagle plains for a while. Apparently it was way worse a couple weeks earlier.

 

I travelled from southern B.C. to Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories over three weeks. Best road trip I’ve ever done, and I’ve done lots. Would do it again next year if it was in the cards. I will return, god willing, many times again to the Yukon and NWT. Place really stole my heart, if that’s not too cheese sounding.

 

Nope. It’s the F-150. Tacoma is second though

 

When we drove it was the wet season, which is August. The LNG truckers were telling me it’s the worst they’d ever seen the road. They shut it down for a couple days it got so bad, so we had to chill in Inuvik waiting for it to reopen to return south. I met a guy who drove around the gates in his Rubicon and he said to was a shitshow. Campers and rigs bogged too the axles and abandoned up and down the road near Black Creek.

 

Same trip, although I did it as part of a larger tour from the Midwest US.

I love the Yukon, and I made a really great friend there, hope to get back again in the next couple years.

 

Trouble is if you don’t wear Oakleys and a ballcap, you look out of place in an F150, unless it’s a company truck.

 

Nice. When I went, the road between Inuvik and tuk was brand new and not quite done. A couple weeks prior they had dragged 7 bikes out of the mud up there and apparently it was a similar scene of mayhem. It only got messy for me where they were working on it with a grader....in the rain....

I told my wife I would love to make that trip. The look I received makes me believe I will be doing it solo while she goes south to warmer areas! One day it will happen.

 

It was shorts weather for a couple days when we were way up there. The weather is highly variable, but can be downright hot in the summer. It can also turn shitty at any time, but people perceive it as colder than it actually is in the short summer months, when the sun is out 24/7 (literally). There are no bugs to speak of in August or September. We went in August because my daughter has school, but that is the muddy month typically, but zero bugs. Long, long days so you can cover decent ground. Sunset at midnight and sunrise at 3:00Am kinda stuff.

Premium time for the trip would be September, IMHO.

 

I think even the most dedicated “fun in the sun” types would be converted by the true North. It is devastatingly beautiful and vast.

 

Good looking truck man. I took a trip from Texas to Utah then back. I made horrible time, every time I stopped for gas someone wanted to talk to me about my truck.

Locally, people stare at it daily and I get compliments every few days. Ever since I spent time at D3 Performance last weekend my torque & transmission has been amazing.
