You need to send that receipt to the service manager. That's ridiculous.

And if he blows it off, send it to Toyota corp. In the meantime, as bleep said, go to a different dealer.

It was more about what they actually put on record that concerns me. Service manager told me it was a known issue but Toyota had NO fix and NOT enough complaints to issue a recall or TSB.

They can’t check the fluid if you are there for an hour or two. It has to cool down to check temp which takes a while.

That sounds like a fancy way of saying the trans is low on fluid

It might be unnerving, but what you’re describing sounds like normal behavior for modern transmissions. In the 90s or so automakers started implementing something called “grade logic” into their automatic transmission programming. It used to be touted as a feature but since it’s so common now most automakers don’t even mention that it’s still in their cars.

One of the characteristics of grade logic is that it will unlock the torque converter when you let off the gas to allow for more efficient coasting. However, when the transmission logic detects that you’re going downhill (by detecting an increase in speed), it will re-engage the torque converter and in some cases even downshift in an effort to maintain the vehicle’s speed and not let it accelerate uncontrolled. The behavior you’re describing sounds very similar to the torque converter behavior caused by the programming logic in downhill scenarios...

amen! You have to be on their ass, just remember to be respectful, yet persistent.

You’ll want to strangle for service advisors lmfao, but keep calm until you get your way.

Agree that keeping calm is the key, but its so hard sometimes.

    Well this one time actually...:anonymous:

I noticed, as soon as i Cc GMs email, when i email the service manager, shit gets done right away. That worked for me really well.

They had the Tacoma for 2 days, checked the fluid and flashed the transmission. They were nice and I in return but I still thought the comment in the work order and what I was told was odd. We will see. At least their response to my concern is on record.
