Good afternoon. Just took delivery on a 2020 SR5 long bed, double cab. Absolutely thrilled with this truck, it drives like a dream and has an excellent fitout.

As a new owner I was wondering about the security system, it doesn't seem to have any alarm at all, is that typical for 3rd gen tacos? What do you guys recommend?

Also, what is the best value for a hard cover (hinged) for the bed? I love the coil up aluminum ones but the coil box would prevent putting in lumber and sheet goods, so I'm looking at some tri-fold options.

    Thanks!

I have a 2016 SR5 with the factory hard top and love it

Your vehicle does not have an alarm but it has an immobilizer. Basically the only easy way to steal it is with a wrecker. Personally alarm systems to me are silly in a vehicle. Thieves can do a smash and grab in 10 seconds which makes an alarm meaningless.
As far as covers, I haul a lot of lumber and stuff too and one of my requirements is easy to put on and take off the cover. I can remove my tri fold in five minutes by myself with no tools.

The truck will not start without the key or fob in range. I have the key start version, and it needs to be read by the system before it will start.

Good to know, thanks for letting me know. Agreed on the alarms, honestly an alarm going off will get almost no ones attention, they are pretty much as useless as a locally unmonitored home alarm.

So are there only certain 2020 trims that have an alarm and others don't?
