Shanahan didn't stop passing because of Jimmy, he stopped because we owned the Vikings on both sides of the ball and no longer needed to. Aaron Rodgers is certainly better but the Packers are not better than the niners.

He did what was asked of him. Drove the team for an opening possession TD even though he was sandwiched by two defenders, and in the process rolled his ankle badly. Lucky to stay in the game. Then the Vikings changed their defense, so Shanahan went to the run. All you doubters don't seem to pay attention to the details. When the defense gives running room, they run. When the defense gives passing room, they pass. Complete domination of the Vikings. Didn't need to pass.

Sometimes teams that suck keep on sucking in spite of annual high draft choices. Since bringing in John Lynch as gm the 49'ers aren't subject to that deficiency and have stocked up not jiust on 1st rounders at the line on both sides of the ball but difference making ones and have added depth that showed when they kept winning in spite of injuries. We have a ton of weapons at tight end, wideout and in the backfield and a QB that isn't afraid or consumed with personal statistics. Nobody picked us to even make the playoffs let alone manage the #1 seed in the NFC ahead of Rodgers, Wilson, Breeze, Prescott, Wentz, or Gough. Hell, Ryan, Murray or Cousins stood a better chance than Jimmy did of leading their team to post season success. Playoff experience isn't over rated but neither is it an over riding factor. Yes, he makes mistakes like not accounting for a linebacker he can't see, but he doesn't grip on that, instead, he focuses on the next set of downs and what he needs to do to succeed then. If we needed him to throw more in the second half he would have, Kyle would have called the plays and the recievers would have run the routes expecting catchable throws. More likely now than at any time in the last 2 decades they'd be right.

Talking heads need fodder for bylines but few of them bother to do any real analysis to infuse accuracy into their statements preferring to glom onto the obvious that equally lazy minds will eat up. You keep on doubting him though because a little insecurity is a good thing, even Ceasar had someone to whisper "thou too art mortal".

 

Every week you win is one more week you rather than some other stiff gets to root for your team. Like sex, it's all about making it last.
