I was always taught to use both. We all know it's possible for a vehicle to roll while in gear but it's also possible for a cable under tension to snap- the only parking brake cable I've ever had break was on an old VW bus and it snapped when I went to set it. I try to make sure and spray lube on the cables under the truck whenever I grease my zerks.

While we’re talking about e-brakes, can it be used on Tacoma’s to initiate a drift?

I always use mine, even in the garage. The only time I don't is when it's going to be really cold outside, like below 20. I had one freeze up on an old Nova years ago. I stopped by the parking lot every day for a couple of weeks and would start the car and rock it back an forth. It finally warmed up enough for me to drive it home. Ever since, if it's going to be outside and really cold, no parking brake.

Sat my fat rear end in it.
If parking on an incline, there's definitely a downside. It's on the opposite end from the upside.

Use mine all the time, it's a good theft deterrent. Thief's are opportunistic and if they jump in a running vehicle, (which I don't leave mine running), and it don't move right away after they shift into drive they may just leave it. Most don't know where the e-brake or parking brake is.

I feel the same way having a manual...and even more so having a t-case shifter for the 4wd right next to it. Some young thief jumps in and sees two transmission stick shifts he's not gonna know wtf to do...jump out and take the simple auto trans parked next to me instead

I use it all the time. It takes the pressure off the transmission. Plus helps prevent the cable from seizing up from non use.

like most have said...no negative to using it. for me the main thing is that it takes pressure off the parking pawl when parked on a hill.
never had a parking brake drum freeze up on me, since, well it's inside a drum(I could see maybe if you had it submerged). I have had them freeze on disc brakes though due to the exposure to the elements

You can. But I wouldn't be surprised if you caused damage to the rear brake mechanism located in the rear brake assembly.

I understand rotors. Have changed and worked on motorcycles and trucks before, but know very little if anything about drums.

What am I supposed to be doing?
Let the truck roll backwards and slowly ease on the parking brake to readjust the rear drums? How often does one need to do this?

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
I just do it in my driveway once in a while. Throw it in neutral, let it roll like maybe a foot and yank the brake

I use it every time I stop and get out of a vehicle- even if parked on my flat garage floor. Manual, Auto- It's just habit after 35+ year of driving... err.. parking??
