    Hey everyone -

Just happened to notice this scarring on my rotor. I can slightly feel it with my fingernail. It extends a bit further, but the caliper is blocking it in the picture.

Does this look like a crack, or more like debris that had gotten stuck between the pad and rotor?

    Thanks for any insight!

Yeah, probably a little rock got stuck. It happened to me before.

That is tough to tell. I would expect a piece of debris that got stuck to follow the normal wear lines. Did you hear any unusual noises? I had a stone stuck once and you could definitely tell something was not right.

Doesn't look like a crack. Appears more like a flaw in the casting that is too deep to clean up when the rotor was machined.

Those were my thoughts as well. I don’t recall hearing any sort of noise coming from that side.

Looks like a gouge. Something got pinched between the pad and the rotor and took some cast iron with it on the way out. I would lean towards it not being a casting defect and or a crack largely by how clean the groove is.

I was think thinking the same thing. Seems odd that the gouge starts inward and works its way out (or vice versa)... unless the trapped rock shifted under the pad while the rotor was moving.

Doesn't look like a crack either though.
