Well that and common sense dictated the situations people put themselves in.

That can be lacking these days

Hopefully our first night is in Maine this year, so we can get to camp before dark the 2nd night. Day 2 last year was a Richard Hammond-esq crash or James May style breakdown away from being a Top-Gear episode.

Something I realized as you and I were blowing through deep water on an increasingly narrow trail...

Would be nice to keep the faster speeds to the bigger roads this year haha. Dont want to become like those Raptor guys that everyone hates

One piece of gear I'd never leave home without is a chainsaw.

Many years ago during an October Moose hunt we got several inches of wet heavy snow. The road we were camping down was lined with Alders. They all collapsed across the road. 2 of use had to cut our way out over 1/2 mile.

Ha! That was this past November. It's not quite up in the NMW, but close. The road I was on eventually turned into an ATV trail, but eventually widened again. There were three trucks on the other side of that bridge wanting to pass...but unprepared. I waited for them to turn around and leave before I got my good friend Stihl out.

There was a major wind storm the evening prior. I stopped counting downed trees at 50. I cut through 15 on my way to my covers (I was bird hunting).

Got a Silky KatanaBoy 500 for Christmas this year. Damn does that thing make quick work of stuff in the road! Had to cut a few just like the ones in your pic on my trip up there last month and it was great

    Those are fine saws!

I carry a similar folding saw for smaller trees and as a backup to the chainsaw.

    Invaluable!

Was planning on an electric chainsaw off the bed outlet, how wrong that was :D I just have a hand saw, was planning to bring that anyway.

I'll be in Old Orchard Beach on Thursday (that's the plan) so the last leg up north Friday can happen any time. Wife bowed out so it's just me and the dog, I'll be sleeping in the cab.

Ocean Park? I grew up in OOB (fortunately/unfortunately depending how you look at it). Nowadays it's just a nice checkpoint if I go north of there (hardly ever, haven't been to a homecoming since 2016).

Ah yeah scarborough is nice too. Old Orchard flips a switch around 930/10PM to go from a family fun beach town to....not that anymore. Black point is the best place to see the sunset though, facing west. There's a few country clubs and such with wrought iron gates and whatnot to stop the tourists from doing that, after labor day everything kind of opens up :)

Strange is one word for it :D I worked bar rush at Rocco's for years, now that I'm >21 I've gone out there too. It's an experience. The vibe really changed when the Galaxy burned down and they didn't come back.

Rivals Brooklyn pizza in the middle of nowhere Maine. The only other non-Brooklyn place that can do that is a place called Napolitano's on Fed Hill in Providence. Actually, haven't been there in a long while. Might have to make a trip this week for a slice....
