Passenger Rear Wheel Locked

Rear passenger wheel won't unlock.. didn't have the ebrake on tried 4hi 4Lo happened last year locked when I was driving almost went into the ditch Toyota said nothing is wrong with my truck and they can't recreate the problem

 

May not be related at all, but I kept having a problem with one wheel where the caliper would stick at odd times for no apparent reason then let go and be fine for a while. Changed calipers, pads, rotors, would still happen out of the blue. Finally I completely drained ALL the brake fluid and refilled/bled everything. Turned out there was some bits of trash (gasket material or rubber shavings?) in one of the brake lines near a junction that was causing it. Drove me nuts for a long time.

 

Is it very cold where you are? Very cold temps can affect the parking brake function. Basic rule if your rear wheel(s) is locked is put the parking brake on and go in reverse. That fixes a stuck rear wheel 90% of the time.

 

I had a tfull brake job done about 2 months ago.. it is below freezing now tried rocking it back and forth l, 4hi, 4lo nothing will release the rear wheel

 

I was just in Gunnison, CO and this happened twice. It remedied after a few minutes of just sitting.
I learned not to use my parking brake.

Hot water on the brake line perhaps?

 

I'll try some hot water on it weird thing is I didn't have the emergency brake engaged as I knew it was dropping below freezing

Hot water didn't work lol.. this happened once when I was driving before the brake job

 

Update** Just to Toyota on the phone. They said it is a common issue with most trucks that moisture will geti the drums and cause the wheel to lock during freezing temptures so you have to wait till it warms up or put your truck in a heated garage to avoid this problem.

Think it's time to sell the Tacoma

 

Very interesting! So basically, don't buy a Tacoma if you live where it regularly gets below 30F. I love my truck but damn if Toyota didn't "overlook" some pretty important details.

 

can you throw hot water on the drum?

always remember sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you dont!

 

Tried hot water and a little space heater nothing has worked but pretty much if it's below 30F and you don't have a heated garage better watch out

 

Have you checked e-brake cable on that side? From back of drum to frame (See your lifted). Cable stretched/hanging-up?

 

Yup seems to be fine not too stretched or anything only a small lift 2.5 inchs

 

maybe after pouring hot water on the drum give it a little"tap" with a hammer

 

Yup did that didn't help any

 

One other thing I would check, is brake line from axle to frame if it is oem. That may be kinked/over stretched, with that 2.5" lift.

 

It looks to be fine to me
