Just put a kenwood dmx7706s and maestro rr in yesterday. Sounds way better and all that junk.
-Phone only charges off usb port
-HU says unsupported device 4446 (galaxy s7+wife's s9) tried 4 different cable out of the Factory USB port with adapter, and straight off the USB out of the unit
-Ipod mini also says unsupported device
-but.......thumb drive with 1GB of music works no problem?

Wtf? I would really like it to work what am I doing wrong here ?

Update the firmware. They shipped several of these units with a USB issue and put out an update to fix it.

Called kenwood, no available firmware update for the 7706. They said it should work. I just tried another cable (that makes the 6th one) still nothing

I must be thinking of a different model. One of theirs had USB issues and needed a firmware update. Could’ve swore it was that one but apparently not. I deal with too many radios lol

I don't know if Kenwood operates the same way Pioneer does, but the Pioneer has two USB ports and one can't do the other - iPod/iPhone has to be in port 1, Android port 2. Just an idea.

This particular radio only has 1 USB port, but good call for other members with different models checking this thread in the future

Been on the phone a few times with kenwood and a few local installers ....
-Kenwood swears its the cable (highly doubt I have tried 8 bad ones)
    - bestbuy and install guys seem to think i got a bad unit that just wont do android (seen it once before
    - my buddy plugged his iPhone 10 in and bingo it fired right up
So I went to bestbuy and exchanged for a new unit, I'm reflashing maestro right now and well see what happens

Yeah unfortunately manufacturers won’t ever admit they could be at fault. Hopefully it fires up on the new unit

This is a dumb question but I’m going to ask it anyway...

Do you have the AndroidAuto app on your phone already?

    Read all the posts; interesting.

I have the same head unit and it worked with my old S6 active, the significant others iPhone 11 Pro Max, and my current S10.

Ok. S9 failed too. Android auto set up and connected. Icon popped up and then......3 seconds later. Crashed and disconnected.

Worthless. I guess I give up. At least the stereo sounds better and I cant play CDs anymore ....

Check the USB tethering I posted above, make sure you aren’t using any extensions, clean the USB port on the phone, reboot the phone, uninstall/reinstall AA app...that’s all I can think of. The flakiness I experienced and the fact AA is still seen as a bit of a project were main reasons I went back to Apple. Sorry I can’t help more, but I’ll keep thinking.
