We just got back from our 8,800 mile "Take It Easy" Road Trip around the USA in our 2010 Tacoma Double Cab TRD...We left from Maine to hike among the saguaros in Tucson, up to the sequoias and Yosemite in CA, along the Shasta Mountain range to the Pacific Coast Highway. Then on through Washington state to Mt. St. Helens and into Montana to Whitefish and Glacier National Park and back home. Averaged 20 - 22 MPG on the trip up and down the mountains and across the plains. Plenty of room for all of our gear and a wonderfully comfortable ride... Can't wait for our next road trip! Now I'm packing to head out for our last fishing trip of the year in a remote location in Maine!!! I LOVE MY TACOMA!!!

Thanks for sharing great pics! Planning to do a road trip in 2015 when I retire.

It will probably be on my other ride; :) This pic was taken less than 2 hrs from our home. Mt Mitchell, NC. Gotta love that elevation and vista. With so much to do and see here in the US, I really don't have a desire to travel overseas.

Road trips are good for the soul -- good on you and your wife for taking a road trip over coming up with a million excuses why you can't enjoy yourself.

I'm jealous too. Made a run from PA to AZ a couple years ago when my daughter was playing softball there for a spring training week. Tacked a week in front and on back. Kind of blew through Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, then went off the interstate for OK, NM, TX, AZ. Great trip, I can't wait to try a northern route.

Did you go on the 'Going to the Sun' road there in Glacier NP? I was on it last year when they had major road construction. There were a few white knuckle moments, but definitely recommended for anyone who goes there! It is such a beautiful place up there!

I did a trip like yours when I retired from the Air Force. I went from Maryland to Houston to Carlsbad Caverns, Grand Canyon NP, Brice Canyon NP, Zion NP, Hoover Dam, Sequoia NP, Kings Canyon NP, Yosemite NP, San Francisco back to Maryland. I was gone for 33 days and put 8300 miles on my 97 Chrysler Sebring LxI.

I'm pleased to read the replies to my post and hearing about those who have taken similar trips or have this on their list of "to dos"... Many requested more photos, so I've attached a few more. Also... the sights along the road are one thing, but finding those local restaurants that harbor fantastic food is another! Ask when you stop, and you will be pleased. We stopped in at The Wool Growers in Los Banos, CA... what a fantastic Basque-style meal... a bottle of wine on the table and tons of food, the first round of appertizers provided us with minestrone soup, a plate of beans, salad, and bread. Then came lamb stew and fall off the bone tender beef ribs... and then came the entree... we chose the chicken and were served each 1/2 of a roaster chicken cooked to perfection! Fantastic! Hope all of you get to take time to see America... what a beautiful country we live in!!!
