Windows offender is always getting in the way on my machine. I keep it disabled entirely and just let AV manage that stuff.

    Have you done this OP?

If its a windows defender issue:
-Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
-Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings, and then under Exclusions, select Add or remove exclusions.
-Select Add an exclusion, and then select from files, folders, file types, or process.(OV tune stuff)

also, you have got to accept some responsibility here. "OV-tune" is such an utterly obscure thing to buy for your truck, its as if whoever spent $700 on this for you had to have been almost hand guided to the check out... Further, Tacoma's are explicitly ecu-locked from the factory for EXACTLY this reason, and you elected to tamper with the Engine control unit anyway... This will NEVER be a "cobb-accessport ver. Tacoma™"...

youre trusting what amounts to a single end user and a message board full of people who sticky "block-spacers and 3rd party ecu Tampering" in the new member FAQ 'must-do's, to perform the job that an entire Toyota Engineering department, TRD and multi-million dollar budgets typically necessitate, in preparing, reviewing and releasing engine management code for an atkinson-cycle motor.
I truly wonder what so many people actually truly expect their Automatic transmission trucks to drive like..? like what did you actually expect the real-world outcome to be from all this grief in modifying your ECU? Its mind-bending stupidity to do all this for "moderate gains" or "shift points" or something like that... Cant reiterate enough: OV-Tune is a direct manipulation of your entire drive train, engine and transmissions function, knowing that, you almost certainly forfeit any and all warranty, if that was ever a concern.

In short, hopefully whatever you want out of this truck is worth that, because it seems to me that if you have an "automatic" there is virtually nothing ov-tune can do for you that is worth burning your drive-train warranty for.

    what do you mean?

I guess ovtune could say "if you cant turn off your antivirus or tell the difference between a handheld dongle and the flash kit maybe this tune is not for you"..

Ew, why would you run either of those giant hunks of trash? Defender on Windows 10 is way better than those.

any program that Micro Soft had not approved as official software triggers the "oh shit" windows virus popup - if Micro Soft builds those programs/executables (I.D.) into their software tables those programs/executables get an automatic pass - there are many honest and note worthy companies who don't want to pay a fee to Microsoft for this or let Microsoft have access to their code. So yes it can be called hackerish.

I had a ton of tech problems too. Good luck and stay patient. The instructions they provide are not very clear.

That is over and under simplifying it. All the instructions and steps for the OG kit are publicly available. A potential purchaser can easily review all of it prior to purchasing.

For me, half of it didn't gel until I got the tools in my hands. I used a borrowed Tactrix to flash the TSB tune (never done anything like it) and then bought the Flash Kit 8mo later, still not fully understanding the different steps involved with OVT. I read all that I could and then learned some more.

If there had been a disclaimer like that, I would have either not purchased and lost out or purchased anyway and learned.

To anyone who gave me worthwhile advice, I thank you. And again, I didnt know what was coming in the mail until it arrived. Dongle. Handheld. The original post was asking for help in the registration process. Which really had nothing to do with my verbiage of a devise.
I admitted computers wernt my strong suit. I have thick skin, I'll take the teasing. But for $700 you almost expect some hand holding guidance. Maybe it's just me? I think I will go to ov and ask for some type of refund. My wife who purchased this went the 5.29 gear route and gave the tune to me. So there was some "direction" as we were looking to solve a common tacoma flaw. The lack of power in the RPM band. With 70 people viewing this thread, maybe I wasn't the only one who disnt have good understanding. Maybe many people could have learned something here. Or maybe not.
