3 inch lift suggestions

I have been looking around but have never really got a straight answer... I am in the market for an affordable 3 inch lift. Which one should I get??

I have seen these: with this option, what coils should I go with 884, 885 or 886?

Apples to oranges. The toytec you've picked is coils and spacers, with factory shocks all around.

Pro comp is supplying longer shocks - tho some folks will dis procomp shocks. I don't know about that, but they're certainly not on the same level of quality and capability as, e.g. OME shocks.

How you gonna use your truck?

 

jr114 is taking his procomp 3" lift of his truck and replacing with icons.

PM him for a good deal on it.

 

Whatever you do don't buy a spacer lift, i've got one and i kick myself in the ass everytime i think about it, so now im saving money for a OME lift.

 

How affordable? Give us a price range?

 

How about the OME lift kit on Toytec? Get the 884 coils up front and an AAL for the rear

 

I would just be driving on the road for 95% of the time and some mudding in there also

My price range would be at most $1000 with installation included, but the cheaper the better so i can buy new rims and wheels as well.

 

your probably better off getting some bilstein 5100s, bumping them up to .85 or the next higher setting and using your stock coil..or said shocks with either ome 883's with shocks at 0 or the eibachs and shocks at .85. that front setup will run you roughly 200 for the shocks and 140-160 for the coils if you get different ones. then you can always get an aal and rear bilsteins as well.

check these out if you havent. very simple yet effective and well liked means of getting lift. the second link is a pair of ome coils that you use on you stock shock(i believe) with a small spacer to gain lift with an aal. if you have more questions..you know where to find us

Ok, well the 2nd option is much cheaper, but how much ride quality would I be loosing with the spacers

Lifts on these Toyotas are pretty simple affairs. If you can use a floor jack, torque wrench, ratchet, C-clamp, box wrench, and hex wrench, you can install one of these lifts. Air tools may make the process faster, but it can be done without them.

You should have someone experienced do it with you though, as some items can be dangerous (coil springs, leaf springs especially - they store a lot of energy, and if you tear them down the wrong way, you can hurt yourself or damage your vehicle).

Consider educating yourself and giving it a try with some assistance. It's really not that hard and will save you a good chunk of cash.

 

Find the local tacoma world regional forum in your area, and see if they're planning a "mod day" that you can attend. Then there would be tools and expertise available to help you out.

The main thing is your schedule has to be a bit flexible, to take advantage of the time that others are available to help you out.

 

learn to do it yourself or with friends. gaining experience now is invaluable.

the spacers that are provided in that kit above, aren't huge 3" spacers. they're relatively small, and most of the lift is attained from the springs themselves. this type of kit is much better than just the spacers that you add on top of your stock set up. that type of setup places alot of preload onto the stock springs which from my understanding are what cause the harsh ride. by using a longer spring and a relatively small spacer, you are placing less preload onto the springs allowing them to function as they were designed, giving you a better ride....this is how i understand it. im sure others will chime in.

 

Yea I would love to learn, 3 inch lifts dont look too hard with too many parts.

i did billies with stock coils and AAL rear. love them. going to upgrade my coils at some point but much better than blocks
