I always like to turn off all the other breakers before I turn off the main breaker, especially in an older panel. I've replaced mains where the owner turned off the main, for whatever reason, and when he turned it back on, only one leg energized and he only had 120 volts in half of the house. When you turn off the circuits one at a time , you unload the main breaker, with no current going thru the main, less chance of an arc flash ruining the internals of the main breaker.

@LivinOnEdge, if you can’t find it, there is a place in Riverside that may have it. They have a lot of the old breakers, they even have some new old stock ones and some refurbished. The right thing to do will be installing a new service panel but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do...

PS: Check this place out as well: https://www.breakerking.com/

Pulled the breaker. May have to order from Connecticut Electric for the retro part. But step one is done. Thanks again everyone!

Does it need to be gfci though? I figure we can just replace it with a regular 15 amp.

That will work fine if you can't find a gfci breaker.

Perfect! A "NEW" gfci breaker of the old brand is $200 on Amazon

The retro brand on ebay is about $20. Plus a couple of GFCI $15 outlets and I think were golden. Again, I appreciate everyones help on this. I learned quite a bit and can now help my father in law service his dinosaur.

So the part # is NAGFI15 for the original.

What would be the replacement? I keep look at Connecticut Retro parts but I can't seem the find a match. I though I did but the metal poles didnt match. Any advice on this? Cheapest local parts store wants $185 for original parts.

That pic and the link does appear to be the non GFCI replacement it's a standard width whereas the other breakers that are in there now below the old GFCI are "thin" or "twin" that's why they are half the width

Even a thin 15 or 20 will work but you will have a small gap in the cover that they make plastic filler plates for but those are a little tricky to get also

Here is the box closed, looks like I can get away with a thin 15 amp since it will match the rest. Will definitely either need a filler plate of some sort to fill the gap...

    This might be it....
