You know, there was a time when you could order your Buick with a turntable. Talk about high tech.....

Does CarPlay work wirelessly? Or do you plug in? Thanks.

Neither of those are Entune though, both of those are built-in functionality of the head unit itself. Entune is the interface that allows you to use applications on your phone via your head unit.

So, in regards to how you are using your head unit, you are not using the Entune system. Do you have applications you can control on your phone from the head unit? I am curious as maybe the older models are more then just Amazon Alexa for support but that is all my 2020 has.. one app, that is it.

It is wired only because Toyota is always behind the tech game instead of being a pioneer. I am hoping Toyota does a software upgrade (all it would take) to support wireless Carplay as all the physical devices are present: WiFi, Bluetooth, QI charger (not really needed)

Interesting, I did not know that.

I always thought Entune was the entire system/interface. If that's the case, and it really is only the part of the system that controls apps on the phone from the headunit, then I agree, it's garbage, lol

    What is Toyota Entune

In that article they call it Entune App Suite and they are calling the entire system "Entune" so I guess you are right.

Well so, hold up... According to that link, Entune IS the entire thing. The Entune app suite sounds like what you were referring to.

But "Entune" really encompasses the entire UI, including audio, Nav, and app suite (if available). The app suite is just one part of Entune.

I have 2019 Entune, and it works ok for me:

    - Signed up for iHeart Radio (free) and found all of my favorite stations. They sound much better on iHeart than over the air
    - Signed up for LiveXLive (it's basically Spotify) for $.99/mo and I get 320kbs music for cheap. Sounds way better than XM and is way cheaper.

When I get in the car, the last station playing starts up again, and audio quality sounds good.

Navigation seems to work, and traffic works in my area but the interface feels 10 years old. The suggested routes around traffic are ridiculously out of the way. So I'll stick with Google maps for driving in traffic.

You got to it before I could do my edit :)

I should be referring to the "Entune App Suite" instead of Entune and will adjust to that going forward to be clear.

Entune App Suite is terrible, Entune is ok.

Plug into the port is exactly what the dealer said. Like what is the point of the Apps button then?

I have Pandora, iHearRadio, Google Music, Pocket Casts, Podcasts, Youtube Music, etc and ALL I get for Entune App suite support is the following:

Just Amazon Alexa.. nothing else. I have tried using it in the vehicle, out of the vehicle, on wifi, off wifi, upside down... for the life of me I cannot get it to support any other app...

Heh, you should have seen my salesman look when I said "You are shitting me, you do not support wireless carplay with a brand new update just this year?"

Seems like 2019 the Entune app suite was already weak, but 2020 was gutted to just the Alexa app?

Just to be clear, the phone plugs into the USB port in the dash, not the Aux port, if you want to use CarPlay or Android Auto. Also, yes, the 2020 head units have NO Entune App Suite available. I went through this with Tier 2 Toyota tech support when I got my 2020. CarPlay and Android Auto *replace* the Entune App Suite. When I asked the guy where that left the customer without a smartphone, he replied "Exactly. Not very well thought out. is it?"

It almost sounds like Toyota did it as "Fine, here is your Carply/Android auto that has been around for 6 years but we will not take away your Entune app suite"
