I thought the prerunners came with 4.10 gears? I know the 4x4 have 3.73 gears.

Thanks a ton for chiming in Cappy Cap. I am still investigating, and first-hand experience is what I was looking for. A full 3rd member swap seems to be the right way to go, but...

When I put in a 3rd member from a 6-lug with the 3.73's and no locker...don't I lose my original locker? My 5-lug has the Auto LSD pseudo-locking differential.

    Natemx,

It would be best if you pay the extra $$$ to have your differential regear with the stock housing. How do you like the locker on your truck?

    Another re-gear thread jezzz.....

1ST... what r ur plans for this truck... i dont see you doing any offroading thats going to require a locker with that Spacer kit ....

2ND...i ran 31s with stock gears and never had any great power issues

that being said there are many other applicants that run the same rear nd as the MINI... T100 and older Tacomas are the main ones.

www.randysringanpinion.com and www.eastcoastgears.com have the 8.4 rear end stuff....also ttora.com is where i got all my used gears for my 06 tacoma 5 LUG... for cheap too ..paid 40 for my last set.

I run 4.10 with 33" and its good for me ....i had 4.56 befor on 33" and it was good for off roading but not so great for street IMO

i have regeared the 5 lug 3 times now if u have any questions PM me

You say its a dumb question but you don't even know how to properly answer it... I hate dumb answers.

So do all taco/tundra 3rds fit into a 2wd first gen taco five lug housing? I'm seeing a lot of contradicting info here with 5 lug axles. I'm new to the yota game and trying to find out what fits what as far as rear axle goes is getting very frustrating.

i have a 98 taco 2wd single cab 5 lug and am currently looking for a welded and geared third but don't know which axles i can pull from...

from what i can find and referencing powertrax's application for our 8.4 rear diff the list is as follows.

    1993-1998 Toyota T100 Pickup
    2000-2006 Toyota Tundra Pickup
    2001-2007 Toyota Sequoia
1995-2010 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 (Not for use on TRD Models, eLocker)
    2001-2004 Toyota Tacoma S-Runner
    2005-2009 Toyota Tacoma X-Runner

now is this list gospel? no, but it does seem to be inclusive of the ones that have been mentioned on multiple threads here on TW. use this list as a starting point for your research...
