It's plug in. There are only a hand full of vehicles that offer factory wireless Car Play. BMW and a few others. And it's not perfect.

    From Cars. com website:

The connection needs in-vehicle Wi-Fi, as Bluetooth alone isn’t robust enough. The latter enables phone calls or streaming music, but it ultimately supports relatively little data. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto need a hardier connection — the impetus behind a physical cable in the first place, which both systems required at inception. A Wi-Fi connection to the multimedia system through an in-vehicle router accommodates more data. It’s the “only wireless protocol that has enough bandwidth to support phone mirroring,” explained David Amodeo, J.D. Power’s director of global automotive.

The downside of such a data-intensive connection? It kills your battery. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can exact such a heavy drain that we’ve observed phones tethered to older-generation USB ports lose their battery charge while using the systems, so robust charging sources are a must. Wireless charging pads have answered the call — a feature that’s proliferated across the industry, especially in cars with wireless Apple CarPlay.

I've never gone into anything with entune because honestly I have no idea what functionality I would want it for. No built in navigation is as good as google maps, and I have the cell phone mounted so I barely have to take my eyes off the road. I start music on my phone playing through bluetooth and it sounds fine and controls through the steering wheel.

Exactly.. Toyota Tacoma has all that. No reason for them not to have implemented it from the get go as they were developing support for Carplay/Android Auto anyways. The only thing stopping you from doing it currently on a Tacoma is software support.

Why on earth would you think I'm trolling? Simply stating the obvious that no one knows what these percentages are and to put them out like they're solid facts is disingenuous.

Then perhaps your reading comprehension needs to be improved a bit...

While I have not done it to my Tacoma, I used this in the past for interfacing the steering controls with my head units: iDatalink Maestro SW Steering Wheel Control Adapter

It worked flawlessly on my F150 and my brothers 2013 Tacoma

Entune has been a weak POS ever since inception. Fucking garbage. Still trying to find time to replace mine. It might have a shitty interface, but at least the bluetooth is dodgy at best, and nav is slow as fuck and provides useless information once it does start "working."

The phone compatibility list is 216 pages. TWO-HUNDRED and SIXTEEN PAGES that becomes more obsolete every month!

Here's the "compatibility manual" which, if you red between the lines, is why so many different people have so many different experiences with it.

You have to use it via Entune App Suite.. thus you cannot have Carplay/AA enabled.. which makes it worthless for me. With that said I never got it to work in Entune App Suite either so.. I just gave up on that whole Suite.. good thing Toyota makes cars and not electronics because they suck at that.

    working on it!
Got my Toyota + Alexa to work and within 30 minutes got rid of it. It must be the 'priority' for the audio source once installed. I'm not sure if I was using it correctly; however, the novelty of it wasn't worth more that 30 minutes of hassle to me so I got rid of it. I also fooled around with Carplay and was not really impressed so I stopped using it temporarily. Right now I'm enjoying the truck and don't want to get frustrated by Entune or Carplay.

This all day. I have a Galaxy S9, no sync issues, no Bluetooth problems, Sirius works, reads music from the USB fast, and with an added amp/sub/speakers the sound is great.

Everything is a trade off, ease of use, plug and play, app support, etc...no matter what you toss in there something will be an issue down the road.
