Will shot leaf springs affect the “rebound” shock test?

I am getting ready to order leaf springs. My shocks probably have 20,000-ish on them. However, I imagine the springs put them through more than they would have normally taken on, especially since I was hauling firewood & it would suck to find this out mid spring job. Does the standard bounce/rebound test still work? Or is there a way to check them? I do have assists on the spring that is in rougher shape if that makes a dif.
& assuming is no good, so am I correct in thinking that springs should come equipped with tip inserts?

 

Assuming you are staying stock. 20K on shocks is not that much and they are easy enough to replace after the leaf springs have been replaced. If you are not bleeding oil I would not worry about it. As to what the new leaf springs are coming with, it is a question you need to ask the vendor.

 

Standard shocks typically run for about 50k miles so you're halfway there. Though you do have a bad leaf pack so for that reason I'd replace the shocks anyway; they're cheap and easy to do so why not?

 

K. Should have added that my reason for asking about the inserts is that the springs are described as OEM. So let me change the question to, do the OEM springs come with inserts? If I think of these types of things prior to asking the vendor, it helps make me question with confidence, if that makes sense.

It is often hard to tell particulars from Toyota dealer parts sites. The descriptions are, well, lacking. Diagrams are great though. & yes. I can call a dealer if need be.

 

What are you calling Inserts ?

The only thing I can think is do you mean bushings ??

I have yet to see a new spring that did not with new bushings your going to need new shackle bushings maybe hard ware

Just replace your rear shocks while your doing the springs. Unless it is a budget issue ?

Only reason I thought to make sure was cuz I was tooling around the ATS site & saw these. I was pretty sure the springs already have them & the ones on the site were replacements for worn out ones, however got me thinkin' I should cross those t's, ducks in a row, etc, prior to ordering.

Their package covers everything, hardware, shackles with bushings.... $400 shipped....

I found a deal on some shocks, so I'm at least gonna snag them even if their for down the road....

Haha! Budget? I have an '01 Tacoma & I have neglected it, so ya make it work somehow.... Ya know, give up the luxuries, like food....

I have some "rainy day cash" I have been dipping into. Guess I'll have to find a place to put some pics up. A few years ago I displayed 10 at a store & sold six & have been talking about doing it again off & on ever since.

 

You're probably on the right track, but fwiw, I put helper springs on my '01 and Rancho 9000XL shocks. Made a huge difference.

I venture after a year exposed to the weather plastic gets brittle breaks up and falls out.

Sounds like you might have some better helpers than mine. I picked up a set at Advanced just to get me through to the spring. That was when I was originally going to do them since my driveway is my shop. Then my sis's boyfriend recently offered up the heated shop with lift at his farm since it's free for a minute. Anywho, I have the assists on the driver's side & the bed is almost flat. Rear being a pinch lower.
