Just got a ticket from a speed camera for going 26 in a 20, and am being fined to the tune of $125. It was in a school zone, but school had been out for 45 minutes, and I thought the 20 mph restriction time period was over. My bad I suppose, but with the kids long gone, 26 mph wasn't being a danger to anyone IMO. Feels like I've been "set up."

I'm seriously thinking of buying covers for the license plates that claim to distort the images taken by these cameras in such a way that they can't be photographed. I've also read about a spray paint for the plates that will make them less "photogenic."

Has anyone ever tried any of these products?:mad::mad:

    1. NO, it will not work.
    2. STOP speeding.
    3. look up your local laws on the school zone, you may be able to fight it in court.
Here in CA, more then one kid needs to be present.

I heard they really don't work well. I watched a video of a guy trying different license covers by purposly running lights and speeding and none of them worked. IMO the best thing to do is plea not guilty.

aren't those plate covers illegal now?? here in MD I think you have to be atleast 11 mph over the posted speed limit but not sure on school zones.

None of the items sold in the stores are working,
also the whole idea of asking that question on public internet is quite silly :D
Think about it if somebody posted what works it would get banned or become obsolete very quickly. Its like fisherman telling other fisherman what is the best spot for fishing :p

We have the red light cameras in Houston, but there is a big push to get a vote on the ballet next voting season to see if the citizens want them...my guess will be no : )

First of all, 26 in a 20 is ridiculous. Fuck them for that.

And secondly, there are two schools within 5 miles of me, and they have those god damn flashing lights outside that tell you to slow down in a school zone. Well, it doesn't mean a whole lot to me when those lights are on 24/7...at midnight, and all summer long....wtf.

Traffic/ speed cameras seems like some "Big Brother" shit to me...and they actually cause more accidents to occur.

I am not even going to comment on this one ..... damn, I did anyway.

As a teacher I wake up in a cold sweat from a recurring nightmare that I get a speeding ticket in a school zone.

I am standing in front of the judge, with my defense all set, and the first thing out of his mouth is, "What do you do for a living sir?"

    Ouch!

Some cities around here have them. I don't mind them in school zones during school hours but they put them in some pretty bullshit places and claim they are there for public safety when in reality they are there as a source of revenue for the damned city. Same with Stop light cameras. For the record, I've never gotten a ticket from one. Knocking on wood as I type this.

If you want to fight it, let me know. I know a good lawyer in the Seattle Metro area. I believe my brother has paid him around $2,000 in the past two years. Where about are you in Seattle?

here in louisiana there are all sorts of illegal things going on with those cameras. here are some examples for your reading pleasure.
    1) you are driving down the interstate and there is a guy operating a van that automatically takes your pic as you speed by. this guy is paid by the parish or town. state police repeatedly stop and write him tickets because it is unlawful to just park your ass on the side of interstate like that for a non emergency reason. hmmm....
    2) you are at a red light with the usual sensors in road. you get a green and before you are half way across intersection its yellow then red before you get completely through. you have been caught by a camera and get your ticket in mail with pics of yellow light. you aren't allowed to use the pics as evidence. WTF right? the cameras are illegal because you can't face your accuser. the person who voted to put in the cameras is also getting kickbacks from the dutch guys that own the cameras. which is illegal by itself. in the drivers manual also says that when blasting through a yellow light gone red that it is legal as long as the light stays yellow when it disappears over the top of your field of view. so why am i getting a ticket when only my ass is still in intersection, passed my field of view?
    3) red light cameras actually cause more accidents then they prevent. the amount of rear end collisions doubles with those cameras.
by the way.... when you get the ticket and pics in the mail, it also says it doesn't count on your insurance nor your driving record. why you ask? because it illegal! thats why most places get the cameras then get them removed.

The only product out there really DOES work is that distorting spray you mentioned...

But you don't spray your license plate with it... you have to shimmy up the pole and use the whole can on the lens of the camera taking pictures.

For those in Houston, this is Proposition 3 and will be on the ballot November 2nd.

For the OP, here in Houston the cameras photograph your rear plate. If that is how they work up there, leave the tailgate down next time you want to speed through a school zone.
