I've been lurking this forum for a half year or so, ever since I knew I wanted to buy a Tacoma to replace my current '04 Dodge Dakota.

Now that things are starting to get more serious, I figured I ought to make an account so I can ask some questions I've had along the way. Looking forward to joining in on the discussion and finally being able to "watch" the posts that I've been having to manually stay up to date with :p

Both of these sound better than "wasting time at work" so let's go with that.

From what I hear about Etune, i think I'd rather shop for a 2020 so that I can get the Android Auto. My original plan was a certified 2018 SR5, but now that the 2020s come with the intermittent wipers standard, I might just get a 2020 SR.

Hehe thought about that myself for android auto. The wiper mod is easy they have an FAQ on that here.

Nice they have an SX package with options (keyless entry) for $945 and a blackout package... lots of cool stuff... tempting...

Just got a 2020 Off Road two weeks ago and Entune 3.0 is crap. The only app available for the Tacoma is Alexa which can just as easily be put onto a phone, so it's basically an app to launch another app. I'm also fairly disappointed with Android Auto myself. I mean it works fine but it has to be ran through usb and when active it makes using the phone a pain because it wants to restrict you to using the AA apps when activated instead of just running in the background. I don't have navigation installed in my truck so AA is my only option if I want to use the display screen for navigating and find myself mostly just using my phone since that's what I'm used to. You also can't type in an addresses from your phone to initiate navigation in AA either (even if parked). Once you pull up the address screen on the dash display it then allows you to type on your phone but it just seems dumb to use the car interface to activate typing on the phone.

I just came from an 06 Audi A4 with no tech so anything is better than nothing, but I've been in several other cars with tech that makes me wonder if Toyota is even trying. Ideally I'd like to just use AA for navigation and run all my audio through bluetooth so that I don't have to plug in my phone every time I get in and out of the truck but it won't run wireless. It's all still pretty new to me so maybe I'll become more accepting with time once I get used to it but for now it's a bit disappointing. Really happy with the rest of the truck though and just wanted to give my 2 cents on Entune and AA as another noob to it all.

Hey man, I appreciate the feedback on the truck and your experiences with AA. Admittedly, I haven't used it a ton but it sounds like you're frustrations are mainly due to trying to use AA in a way that it isn't really meant to be used. I would imagine they designed it to force you not to use your phone (to type in addresses, for instance) because they're trying to push the hands-free "ok google" interface. I would expect once you get used to that, it should become a little less cumbersome to use.
