Sort of a personal WTF moment...

Facebook Marketplace has some incredibly overtrusting folks.

Last week my wife found a $35 something on FB marketplace she wanted, so I went with her to get it on a weekday evening.

The woman selling the item lives in a big fancy house at the end of a long wooded driveway, no view from road, was home alone, and led us halfway through the house to where she had the item sitting.

    :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Told my wife if she ever pulled a stunt like that, I'd kill her if the buyers hadn't already done so.

It gets old trying to stand on the hub for quick fixes. I can feel my knees hyper-extending on the fender. I wouldn't mind the step.

    Several WTFs in there.
    - meth test used by police throws false positives on sugar over and over again
    - arresting officer still believes it was meth
    - even though all charges were dropped the guy still has a felony meth ARREST on his record

    ...^^^... Wow ... I am surprised ...

With all the car jackings and car robberies and now with Atlanta PD no car chase policy  ... everybody is super cautious where I live.

Many of the crimes (robbery and murder) are super young kids too.

You are a smart guy to be super cautious ... even at the gas station in the daytime.

Indeed -- the place we went to is a little bit east of Hickory Flat, with a Canton GA mailing addr. So not close in but still ATL area with all the ATL news stations.

That this was a $35 item factored heavily into my choices here -- we'd have done this completely differently for something of high value like a phone.

.. and yes, especially today you have to maintain high situational awareness.

    Cheese it! The cops!

Texas police dusted cheese slices for fingerprints, and it actually worked

Texas police recently discovered cheese slices can be dusted for fingerprints, so if you're ever in the middle of committing a crime, stay away from the fridge's dairy drawer.

Police in Carrollton, Texas, made the discovery while investigating a prank that involved covering an individual's car in Kraft cheese slices, reports WFAA. Technically, "cheesing" a car isn't illegal, but it will get you a serious whoopin' if your mama finds out you're involved.

The officers are looking for the vandals because there was damage to the car other than the smears of cheesy goop all over the windows. At first, the investigators had no leads, but then there was a "Kraft" in the case.

Officer Parker Powell, a name that is basically begging to be the star of its own crime show, was called in to dust the cheese slices for fingerprints, and holy cow, it actually worked.

Carrollton police now have a set of very clear fingerprints to work with, and the crime-solving community at large now has a new tool under its belt.

For more information, read the full article on WFAA.

I forget where I first heard this, but it remains pretty true...

A man who squeezed in an evening workout found himself in a tight spot when the staff accidentally locked him in for the night.

"I am literally locked inside 24 Hour Fitness right now," Dan Hill wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday, alongside photos of himself inside the empty gym.

Hill said that the staff at 24 Hour Fitness in Sandy, Utah, "closed the doors and went home while I was swimming my laps in the pool," which seemed confusing based on the name alone.

The man told ABC News Utah affiliate KTVX that he was nervous to unlock the doors himself for fear that it could set off any alarms or being implicated for a crime.

"I called dispatch and the guy pauses for like 10 seconds and says 'You’re where?'" Hill told KTVX. "And I said, 'I’m in 24 Hour Fitness, and there’s an alarm system here and I don’t want to get busted for breaking and entering.'"

As Hill walked around the gym, he called his wife, who he said suggested he just "find a comfortable place to sleep."

    This is very true.

Several years ago, my dad gave me some DVDs about situational awareness, self-defense and some general skills to develop when you're out-and-about in the public. I learned quite a bit from those DVDs and still carry those skills with me today. Some of the skills are tough to describe, but would include things you wouldn't expect, like listening for the footsteps behind you to suddenly increase in cadence, or to observe the way two or three separate people might be looking at one another (nonverbal communication to set something up). I usually carry an object for self-defense that can be in my hand in just two seconds or so.

With the way things are now, you really do have to stay on your toes 100% of the time.

    Fair question.

I felt it was unlikely they'd use a $35 pack-n-play as bait. Yet I remained on full alert, let the woman precede both my wife and myself rather than follow, and I was carrying.

Planning an eventual family move to Kentucky in about 3yrs. Starting research now, and saving money so we can both quit our jobs at least 6 months out and get plenty of check out the area time in before we commit. Want to make sure we end up in a good area that is surrounded by other good areas.
