I did it for zero dollars in special tools, or more correctly $10 in steel welded together. Then you can use an old ABS tone ring to seat the new seal.

Not saying the exact tools aren't better, but if you have access to a welder, I would rather not pay the premium for that special tool that will rarely get used.

Did that tool seem to work any better than the one Timmy uses in his how to video? They obviously do the same thing, I know the tool he used was a little too thick to mount to the stock backing plate bolts and had to knock out the stock bolts and use longer ones in its place.

Do you happen to know the spacing of the bolts that hold the axle onto the housing? Planning on making my own removal tool and getting that part cut with a waterjet. Just need to CAD it up first

Nope, my form of CAD was cardboard aided design. I can measure the tool I made, but it's not very exact.

Ah the one true meaning of CAD.
Yea doesn't have to be the most precise thing I guess

I had planned to draw something up and cut one when I pulled my axles last. I've got a template somewhere around, I'll try and find it, it's not perfect, but should be good enough.

Feel free to remind me if I forget.

    Check Out My Builds
Made some good progress today. Got my parts in so I swapped out my fan bracket and my obnoxious squeal went away.

    Took off my drive shafts

    E50C1CB0-8989-43ED-B1FC-FEDCFC2E20B2.jpg

Took apart the interior components, going to swap over the new Marlin crawler bushings upon reinstallation. Also got the starter out for like the 4th in the past 2 months

New parts that will hopefully go in this weekend. Plan tomorrow is drop the transmission and go from there.

Well, shoot. Looks like I've got my Saturday planned out. I was already going to replace my fuel injectors this weekend, I guess I'll add a valve cover job while I've got the air intake plenum off.

Flushed my power steering fluid, it was definitely dirty. And I learned ATF smells horrible.

@cruiserguy @1997tacomav6 Any ideas on how to clean the valleys on top of the motor once I have the plenum removed? There is years of dirt and grime collected there.

I'm by far no pro, I think I'd clean as much as I could of the grime/dirt with a shop vac, prolly have to loosen a lot of the crap off to be able to get the vac to suck it up. Even compressed air might be good for the loose stuff but I'm more a vac guy. That way I don't just blow a bunch of dust up into the air.
I guess I'm saying I'd try to clean as much as I could dry before getting the hose out. I'm flattered that I put off the perception of a nice and clean engine bay:D:rofl:
1997tacomav6 I'm sure will have a better process and experience doing this. I'll stay tuned to learn from his answer:cool:

I have gone into that section plenty of times over the years just because the supercharger has to be
rebuilt every 150,000 and comes off.
That area has never been an issue with collecting dirt or grime for me tho.
Brake cleaner and rags Is what I used to clean that area when the supercharger comes off
