I know I'm going to get flamed from this but...I was just curious if a CB radio would still work if there was no antenna. The reason I'm asking is because we're going camping and as opposed to a hand-held walkie, someone has a CB radio but no antenna.

All we need it for is...to maintain contact while we're driving through the passes behind each other.

    Can anyone help?

Nope, gotta have an antenna unless it's one of those handheld ones with the antenna built in.

Thanks Colton! Dude, I swear if you're not a technician, you could be one. I think I've seen you almost comment on every post that I've searched on.

Yup...never key up the mic on a CB without a load on the antenna output, or you'll cook your transmitter circuit.

So, how exactly do you hook up the antenna to the CB Radio. I honestly know NOTHING about these. I just started looking at them about 10mins ago. TIA

coax cable that you buy runs from the back of your cb to the spot you want to mount the antenna buy a bracket and screw the antenna into the coax cable

They still sell magnetic mount antennas too. Just stick on roof or any metal surface and hang cord through a window. REPEAT NEVER key the Mic without some sort of antenna on the radio. Depending on how far apart you will be, the long range family radios work pretty darn good.
