Are there two versions of the 6 speed auto?

I’ve searched quite awhile all over the internet and apparently don’t know where to look so I’ll ask here.

Is the 6 speed auto used in the 3.5 V6 the same as the 6 speed used in the 2.7? Are there any differences at all besides basic connections and computer programming?

I ask this because I’m thinking the 2.7 may be the more durable motor and if the transmission is built to handle the V6 then it would last even longer paired with the 2.7.

 

All of the gear ratios are identical between the I4 and the V6, so it may very well be the same transmission. This transmission may be made for multiple platforms and might be over built for the V6 as well. I don't think longevity of the transmission is in question. This comes down to your personal preference as to what engine best suits your needs.

The Tacoma transmission does not have a reputation for failure, I've yet to see one fail, only one manual transmission on a new TRD Pro when they came out.

You're right that it won't take as much heat or wear as a V6 model, but it's negligible.

 

Consider it may be shifting more when paired with the 2.7

 

Get the V6.

 

Shift point programming complaints aside, the 6AT is a tough transmission. 1 million overland newbies with 2 tonnes of instagram-ready armour and bloat can’t seem to kill it.

Same transmission for both 4 and 6 cylinder models. I believe the AC60E is for 2WD models and AC60F is for 4WD.
