If we stuck with that mentality then we’d still be driving model A’s.

The tundra is outdated, inefficient, and poor tow capacity for its size.

I liked the one that I used on my mail route, about the same efficiency as my truck on the same route. The only issue I had with it was ABS, it almost made my uncle crash but he was able to slide between stopped traffic and the guard rail and then the ABS made me slide through the gate at our house.

It sure absorbed the impact pretty well though.

The tundra has a tow capacity of 10k lbs, same as my F-150. 20 years ago, 10k lb tow ratings were for diesel 3/4 ton trucks.

As far as inefficient, the 5.7 has similar power to all the competitions V8s, but does get worse fuel economy.

On the flip side, Fords Ecoboost engines have cam phaser and turbo issues, the 5.0 has oil consumption and cam phaser issues. The 10r80 transmission is an abortion. Dodge’s Hemi is known to eat cams for breakfast. Chevrolet’s 10r80 trans is also an abortion, and their engines suffer from poor reliability as well. The cylinder deactivation on GM engines is a nightmare.

I’d rather have poor mpg and a proven engine than what the competitors currently offer.

You ain’t kidding about that cylinder deactivation. It made a valve drop in my brother’s 6.2 chevy. :( GM did replace the entire motor though, block and heads plus labor.

Fortunately it can be deleted, unfortunately you have to tear the motor down to get all the parts out, so cam, headers, and head work (valves, springs, and pushrods, any port/polish work) might as well happen at that very same time as well

What I will miss about my F-150 is this. And yes, that’s a half ton pickup doing 0-60 in 4 seconds spinning the tires in 4wd.

What makes the tundra “inefficient” is also what makes it reliable. Sure you could throw a couple turbos on a v6, but then you sacrifice reliability. Ive towed my Jeep with my tundra literally all around the country and have never felt the tundra to be anymore inefficient or worse MPG (towing) than any other half ton truck. Going up and down the passes on i70 in Colorado is a breeze. I didn’t see any new RAMs or F150s doing it. Just my .02

I know of a few ecoboosts that have been been rode hard and towed a lot with no issues. I mean I’m fine with my 3.4 having shitty gas mileage cause it’s realiable, but at the same time if I cared about mpg I wouldn’t have a truck lol

The turbos aren’t as bad as everyone makes them out to be. Mine got replaced for a wastegate failure. The turbo itself was fine.

My g-pa has over 100k on the first year model Ecoboost and has never had any issues.

Very rarely do I PERSONALLY see 100k+ EcoBoosts that haven’t had some sort of turbo related failure.
