Who loves their Taco the most? And Why? I love my 2nd gen. Third Taco I've owned. I've thought about trading her a couple times but for now decided to keep her. And the only thing I would even consider trading her for is another Tacoma. What's your love story?

    • Tranny shifts just fine.
    • Good low end torque
    • Only had to do item in 8 years. Was a new battery other than routine maintenance
    • Still drives and runs like the day I got her.
    • Turns heads wherever I go. Sexy!!

I love my 2nd Gen; However, the reason I have it is because back when I got my learner's permit my parents said they would buy me a vehicle. I am not the least bit picky or spoiled when it comes to vehicles; However, I did have three requirements besides the vehicle being reliable...
    • It had to be a pickup truck or an SUV
    • It had to have air-conditioning
    • It had to have an AUX input and/or USB port

My 2010 Tacoma, purchased new by my parents in September 2009, fell into all three of those categories! My parents bought me a brand new Tacoma as my first vehicle! My dad transferred the title to me in December 2016; Now I've got almost 109K miles and my truck runs just as good as she did when I brought her home over a decade ago!

Biggest expenditure on my truck by far that wasn't routine maintenance was the evaporator core...

    Almost $1,600!

A/C suddenly stopped blowing cold on the passenger side in May or June 2017; Mechanic recharged it but couldn't find the leak...

April 2018 I had the same problem; A/C was blowing ice cold out of the two left vents, but merely cool out of the inner right vent and warm out of the far right vent. Mechanic charged it again but couldn't find the leak.

By August 2018, the A/C was performing worse than ever; Finally threw in the towel and brought my truck to the dealership. The dealer charged the system, added dye, and told me to bring it back in a few weeks (so the dye could "circulate); The A/C worked better than it had in years, and I brought the truck back at the end of the month...

Ended up being the worst case scenario (leaky evap core); Dealer charged a fortune but they did fix the problem and warrantied all parts and labor for two years from the date of the repair!

2 Gen. Happy with the 4.0 and the off the line torque. Bought this truck just before 2016’s rolled in and don’t regret it for a second. I am sure I would have had the leaky 3rd brake light wet ceiling issue from that year ...out of warranty. Would have been my luck.

Holding out for the next generation to come out.

Other Gen's too embarrassed? I could possibly understand the 3rd Genner's but the 1st Genner's?

Definitely enjoy driving my 2013, zero problems, looks great, paid for, no reason to trade it in.
I'll be driving this truck for a long time.
The new trucks look good but I'm not into spending 50G in Canada after tax and reg for an Off-road.

I had a 2007 double cab long bed. When I see other ones like it, I do wonder if I should have held onto longer.
However, it had enough issues driving me crazy that I decided to get something new.
Purchased a 2019 off road double cab long bed.
Have taken it far more places and used it as a truck far more than I did my 2007.
The modern features in a 3rd gen have made it way more enjoyable in my opinion than the 2007.
So I guess I “love” my 3rd gen the most.

1st gen, it gets me from point A to point B. To each their own, they wouldn't make so many different options and brands if we were all happy with the same thing.

I love my third gen more than any vehicle I've ever owned. I've had the truck for six months and I still volunteer to run errands just because I love driving it. This is my first Tacoma, but my third truck and my second Toyota pickup. I came into it with my eyes wide open and got more than I expected.

But given what I've read here, I don't think I could say that 3rd genners overall love their vehicles as much as first or second genners. I think the newer Tacomas have become a victim of their own success. The first and second gens have been such incredible trucks for so long, the Tacoma's reputation made new buyers have ludicrous expectations, particularly folks who've never owned trucks before. The truck's been mythologized to the point that some of them apparently thought they were buying something with the speed of a Corvette and the hauling power of a superduty and the comfort of an e-class, all with the reliability of... well, a Tacoma.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2nd Gen owner here...first Tacoma, and I love it! I plan on driving it for a lllloooonnnggg time. Little skeptical of modding it just because I want things to stay reliable, but...give it time. That will probably go out the window.

Also, just saying...the site banner has a 1st gen on it....:stirthepot:
