I went with the fully loaded Or because I know I'm replacing the shocks. The wheels are cooler on the pro but I'm 60 and have finally learned that kind of thing doesn't make me happier. So it made more economical sense to go or.

Love the Pro. Went with fully loaded OR instead. Spent $4k to make it a Pro+, kept the other $7k in my pocket. Said that, if you can get a super deal on the Pro, get it, otherwise get an OR and make it a Pro if you so desire, IMO.

If you're going to use the locker enough, get an OR. If you're just using 4x4 for functional chores and nothing crazy, save a ton of cash, get an SR5 and spend the almost 10k in savings on excellent mods. I love my TRD OR and no regrets but in retrospect kinda wish I had opted for the SR5 4x4 as I'm not a hard core wheeler.

The important factors have already been stated. I think you need to figure how long you are going to keep the truck. If you're going to drive it "forever" then get the O/R and don't worry about what you spend modding it. If you want LED lights, etc. then the difference between O/R and pro becomes less, but as previously stated you will negotiate a better price on O/R.
If you're going to keep it a short time and leave it stock either way, then PRO or O/R is just a personal choice.
If you're going to keep it forever and want to go mod crazy, then get an O/R.
Just don't buy an O/R, do tons of mods and plan on keeping it for 2-3 years. It will end up costing more than the Pro with the depreciation + cost of mods.
    Good luck.

The price difference between an SR5 and an Off Road is around $1800, where is there $10K in savings?

It's closer to a $4000 difference of the SR5 4x4 to TRD OR for the average buyer, however, I was comparing an SR5 to a TRD Pro. Simple web searches show all of this quite clearly.

These are very important matters after all.

Gotcha, I didn't realize you were comparing SR5 to Pro. Maybe the price structure changed recently as the last numbers I had showed $31796 for an SR5 4x4 DCSB AT and $33,456 for an OR in the same configuration.

For me it came down to not wanting to mod. The Pro offers just that extra I was looking for without making any changes to factory gear. I went into my purchase of the Pro with the intention of keeping it long term. Upgrading tires is probably the extent of upgrades I really care to do.

That being said, what people are saying about going with the OR and using the money saved for upgrades are 100% accurate. I guess it just depends on how much upgrading you want to do to the truck. Other than that, you can pretty much get all of the same options on the OR that the Pro comes with.

Was going to be getting a Pro but then my father-in-law gave me his Harley on Christmas Eve. So now that will be my thing to mess with for a while so I am going with an OR to save the money!

Ummm wrong. The OR has a much beefier suspension and other upgrades even over the TRD Sport which is mostly an appearance package.

I say pro but what ever Tacoma you get use Amsoil heavy duty metal protector on the frame to protect yours self from the Maine's winter rust. Rust never sleeps.

The TRD Pro includes everything on the TRD Off-Road PLUS:

    • Fox Off-Road suspension with front coilovers and remote reservoir rear shock absorbers.

    • 1-in suspension lift

    • TRD 1/4-in aluminum front skid plate

    • 16-in Black TRD wheels offering a 1-in wider track

    • Larger anti-sway bar

    • Unique hood with a (non-functioning) hood scoop and "eye-black" decal

    • TRD cat-back exhaust
With the TRD OR and $10,000, I got:
    - 2.5 inch Bilstein lift with UCAs, $1600
    - OEM skid plate (seems fine)
    - black rhino wheels x 5 ($800)
    - Gibson SS exhaust ($300)
    - OEM sway bar
    - OEM hood

There's no way to justify the insane TRD OR prices, unless you want to feel "cool." I guess TRD PRO also comes with fancy floor mats? Weathertechs $250 all around I guarantee are better.

I was dead set on getting a Pro back in 2017 but could never find a reasonably priced one. Dealers here in CA were charging 10K above MSRP and they were all loaded with useless accessories. I ended up settling for a fully loaded TRD OR for $500 below invoice. So glad it worked out that way. The reason is because I am the type of guy that cannot leave anything stock. I really like to customize things and make them my own. It would have only been a matter of time before I ditched the single biggest thing that differentiates the Pro from the OR--the suspension.

Summary: If you have the money and you are the type of guy that will be happy and content with a stock truck, get the Pro. It will serve you nicely and is plenty capable. If you have the same affliction as me and obsessively upgrade and customize things, get the OR or even a lower level trim, then mod away. You will save a ton of money going that route. If money is a factor and you find yourself stretching your budget to get the Pro, the stock OR is plenty capable too. Drop the tire pressure and you will be able to hit 80% of easy to moderate trails...youll just get to the end a little slower than a lifted truck.

Everybody keeps saying there's a 10k difference been OR and Pro. When I was shopping for a 2020 Off Road *WITH* the Premium and Advanced Tech packages (not a base model OR), no dealer was going below 44k. I paid just under 48k for the Pro.
Some dealerships were charging 52k for the same Pro and wouldn't budge, so it depends on what kind of deal you can get.

Never thought I’d see a Tacoma for $50K until 3rd Gen

That's what they were going for in 2019. I bought my fully loaded OR (MSRP$ 41,250) for $36,500 while all PROs were selling for no less than MSRP ($46,000-$48,000), sometimes even more. 2020 just started, give dealers some time and they'll start discounting ORs just like they always did. PROs will probably continue selling for MSRP or possibly more.

This is true. I ordered my Pro in Oct and it was delivered late Nov. The dealership I went to had two, 2019 Pros still on the lot. They couldn't get rid of them because they have those desert intakes. I live in AR and most people who get that stuff go for a full snorkel instead. They pushed hard for me to get one over ordering a 2020, but they still wouldn't budge on the listing price which was just shy of $48,000. I drove passed the dealership the other day and they still have both of those 2019s sitting. But there were some great deals on some of the remaining OR's on the lot.
