Or at least keep it from getting worse. Is there a way to sew it up without tearing up the fabric worse than it is? I'm not interested in covers.

I was hoping for a cheap DIY method. I'm less concerned about looks than I am it getting worse.

Depends on how cheap you want to go, but you can upholster it yourself if you're handy with a needle and thread. Double needle technique should make the repair almost disappear. You'll want to sew past the damage at least an inch on each side or it will return faster. It's the same thing an upholstery shop would do. If you feel like that's above your skill level, you can use an iron on patch, but at that point you might as well use duct tape.

I will look into how to double needle and whip stitch. Thanks for the suggestions.

A new cover from Toyota is $300 and it had a piece of duct tape over it when I bought it.

You can buy a set of "universal" seat covers at wally world or similar for about $ 30 or less. You can get fancy and get camo, or "pleather" for a few dollars more. It will look better than a sew job and be cheaper than replacing it with OEM covers. You could also do a junk yard dive, but you would probably need to buy 2 seats to make sure they match

A curved needle will make easy work of that tear. Double stitch it and it should hold for quite a while.

I've come to the conclusion that the seat fabric on the TRD/Sport models are not as durable as the base SR5 seat fabric.

Fixed. The upholsterer idea was a good one. Completely forgot our dealership has a vendor that does that. He fixed it for free.
