Nice. I think I may go the same exact route. How did you power your door speakers and sub (like amp wiring setup-wise)?

Also did you need any special Metra wiring harness?

    Edit: no problem, it's helpful

Pioneer 1200 watt for door speakers and rockfordfosgate t1500bdc for subs. And kicker tweeters.. lol no Metra wiring. Just spliced the 4 wires for all speakers from factory harness back at the amp. Ran the subwoofer amp under drivers seat and door speaker amp under passengers due to passengers seat has less room

Gotcha. Didn't you need the Metra tyto-01 harness (retains JBL amp wiring) to connect your old stock headunit harness to the pioneer since you spliced into the speaker wires back at the amp? Or if not how did you work around that?

Oh yes. Totally spaces the mastro rr and harness. Yes you need that. With the pioneer and inbelueve the kenwood you get to have access to your trucks can bus guages. Lots and lots of new information including quarter mile times , 0 to 60, breaking distance instant fuel mileage ect.. highly recommended. If you make a cart on crutchfield they will guide you on all the items and some you could do without. But the mastro rr and harness are nessessary

Personally, I chose the Focal access series 6.5. 165AS I believe? I had to mount the rear tweets onto the plastic panel where a speaker did not exist. And the crossovers went behind the door panels. My opinion this system sounds great for the $. A good balance of quality sound and affordability.

Those focal components look solid. On Crutchfield they're priced at about 199. A similar focal component set, the "integration" line, is 150 but comes without the crossovers. I've googled a bit to learn about the function of crossovers, but in your opinion are the crossovers worth the extra $?

Speakers are only as good as the enclosure you put them in. Make sure you sound deaden if you want optimal performance. Check out jesse Rizzo on you tube.

Really depends on your ear for music and how you intend to listen. I spend a lot of time driving and wanted a nice sound system. It's worth the money if it's what you want. Not unlike anything else lol

Sure, I get that...I do a couple cross country road trips a year consisting of a good bit of jamming :) I guess crossovers is the way to go. Have you noticed any of the so called power loss associated with passive crossovers?

I swapped out the oem jbl sub for another and bridged it off the oem amp. Made the best difference swapping components and keeping it mainly stock. There’s another thread on here about it, someone else started it. But worked well and only cost 60-70 bucks

I chased down that rabbit hole for over a month. Best to leave the stock paper sub in and just worry about keeping the amp cool. It automatically lowers volume to keep from overheating. Add a fan or pelletier or whatever u want. Even putting air conditioning on outside air moves some air past the amp. Not alot but it does

While I was getting my stereo upgraded. I saw a underseat sub being installed. One of those blue rockville 100$ 12" subs... I'm not gonna lie that thing surprised the heck out of me. There was no way I was gonna put that in my truck but then I herd it and I was second guessing the 3000$ I just spent on replacing the whole jbl system.
