Stock tire 265/70r16 recommends
@29 front and 32 rear

 

E-rated side wall is to blame for the stiff ride, not so much the air pressure. Sure 28psi will cause a smoother ride, but will wear your tires faster. Less tire pressure causes more heat while driving. Heat are tires worse enemy

 

What was the OEM tire?

It was rugged trail BFGoodrich

 

29 psi for me. All 4 corners, just what my door jamb says. E rated bfgs ko2s. Rides excellent.

 

What size?

 

Maybe someone put extra leads on your tires.

That was a P265/70/16/111.

At 29/32 psi it has 2,216/2,326 lbs of inflated load capacity...this translates to 2,015/2,115 lbs of inflated load capacity when using LTs.

An LT285/75/16 has an inflated load capacity of 2,046/2,130 lbs at 33/35 psi.

 

So the psi should be higher or lower for a bigger tire (more mass)

 

What’s this all about?

 

PSI is just a means to an end; the end being inflated load capacity.
When you change size and/or load rating, we adjust psi to inflated load capacity.

P and euro metric tires have a 1.1 correction factor applied to their inflated load capacity, when used on trucks and SUVs.
Example: 2,216/1.1=2,015

I’ll try my best to comprehend some of this stuff it’s a lot of information, nice!

 

I just did the chalk test and ended up leaving all four tires at 33psi. There was slightly more chalk left at the edges of the tire but looked pretty even across the tread of the tire.
What do you think?
