Installed a new radio in my 2009

I wanted to get Satellite GPS, so I started checking into it a little. I called Crutchfield, and they were very helpful. I went with a Kenwood with all the bells and whistles. I installed it myself, and it was easy. I mounted the microphone up in front of the rear view mirror. The GPS is right under the dashboard, and I used the shark fin antenna for the SiriusXM module. It all works great, even using the original speakers. It also uses wireless ApplePlay.

Looks fresh. What model head unit did 7 go with. Looking to update my 08. Also where r u running usb wires. And did u go with any backup or front cameras ?

 

I ran one USB wire to the glove box, and another to a spot next to the AUX port that wasn’t used. I used a Dremel tool to ream out the plastic so the USB fits perfectly and kind of looks like it was born there.
I did not hook up the camera at all. The backup camera works just fine in the rear view mirror, and I left that alone. I have been using it that way for 10 years, and I am satisfied with it. One less thing to accommodate.

 

What model kenwood is the head unit ? Ex: dmx906s

 

I installed a Kenwood DNR876S.

 

I suggest whatever head unit you purchase, ask Crutchfield to set you up with all of the peripherals that you need for a really smooth install.

Several years ago, I purchased a Top-Of-The-Line Kenwood unit for my 2007 Jeep (DX999 -something). I didn't do a lot of research on the unit until after the purchase. I figured that "I bought the top unit. There shouldn't be any concerns." Well, the install into the JK was pretty tight. And those big Kenwood units have a cooling fan on them. Well - my expensive unit only lasted about 3 years before the fan quit working and the unit overheated.

 

Oh boy sorry @PhenixFord brother that’s a tough break. My 6 year old pioneer Bluetooth/Nav (but not much else) unit which was pretty decent at the time and high dolla from Best Buy is still cookin but just doesn’t have any of the sexy stuff that could possibly bring my 2008 beast back lol. I’m already adding a powered sub to her so I figure while they are in there why not refresh the head unit.
