FJ case in a 3rd gen tacoma

So does that mean you have order a taco box from Marlin crawler? Just out of curiosity how has everything been holding up, still functioning? Now on the 2nd gens that do this swap, there is a diagram that shows you how to add an ADD activation switch and how to get your dash lights to Cooperate together, is the 3rd gen 100% different on this end? Wyatt at rock solid toys seemed pretty confident that it would work on the 3rd gens just like the 2nd gens, but he wasn't 100% as he hadn't performed one yet on a 16+. I will 100% be performing this swap when my clutch goes on my 16 with 120K miles.

 

Why did you go with the auto fj cruiser t-case? Since you had a manual wouldn't it have been better to go with the manual transmission t-case?

The manual transmission FJ case is full time 4 wheel drive. The automatic FJ cases are “J” pattern part time 4 wheel drive.

I'm still stuck on no warranty because you off roaded a TRD OFF ROAD.
So if I have a dirt driveway or live on a dirt road, my warranty is voided?
I wonder how Toyota gauges abuse? Or how an attorney could make them change their minds on off roading a TRD OFF ROAD.
Toyota doesn't need bad press being Ford, Chevy, Jeep, and Honda are all selling trucks in their same class.

 

Dealers deny warranty work all the time. It's often a fight people aren't interested in fighting. At the the end of the day, he traded his Taco for a Tundra, so it doesn't really matter.

I might be soon. Figuring out a 1 ton swap and the Tcase is the biggest obstacle.

 

So Toyota determined I off-roaded because of the death grinds on my diff and skids. I decided to get out of off roading a car I owe money and on.
So I solid axle swapped a Tahoe put it on one tons and 37s

 

I'm just about there too. Luckily I convinced toyota to cover the cost of the actuator and install, but I'm still pretty deflated over the whole experience.

Tahoe looks wicked though!

 

Hey it's me again! LOL a few months later, and we're back where we started
Getting an FJ case later this week, and hopefully swapping between christmas and new years. Has anyone figured out the electrical portion of this swap?

So, finally got my swap all figured out. I made a template to help clearance the transmission for the shift rods, worked like a dream. Way better than guessing.
I went a bit too deep on the driver side shift rod, definitely didn't need to go that far. But shouldn't be an issue, I'll keep an eye on it.

I found that using this burr bit was easiest, only walked off on me a few times as you can see above


Basically done, just waiting on my twin stick kit, and trying to figure out the timing on the actuator after I took it all apart and cleaned it, and I should have 4x4 again!

 

Not sure how well this will work but here's the AutoDesk Fusion 360 file for the template I made.

I ran the dowels long so that you could cut them to length. Not everyone is going to grind their shift rods the same, so make sure you measure and cut the dowels as needed.
