How old was the truck at the time?

 

It was around 2 years old, if memory serves me they are supposed to total vehicles if damage exceeds 70 percent of value. For the amount of parts replaced and the time it spent in the body shop along with them paying for a rental car had to exceed that figure.

 

I wouldn't want my truck back if the damage was severe to push the floor in the pedals! I'd rip out the stereo system, take the insurance money, buy a similar truck, and reinstall the stereo system...

 

I really wish they had totaled it, ended up keeping it 6 more years. When the body shop released it to me I drove it to work and when going over humps it was all over the road and I almost crashed, they definitely left something loose under there and it had to go back.

 

What was effed up about the air-conditioner?

 

It all got crunched behind the grille.

 

Did the airbags go?

 

No, all the damage was down low.

 

How much did it cost to fix? And your wreck of a truck would have made a phenomenal trail rig!

 

I really cant remember what the total cost was, there were 2 different bills too as one was for the frame and suspension repair and the other body and paint

 

Did it at least look good?

 

It looked ok afterwards unless you opened the hood and looked in the engine bay as you could see welds on the drivers side and firewall. You actually triggered a memory, I do remember a part of that repair bill which was $8036 which I think was strictly for the frame and suspension part.

 

Here it is a couple years after repairs so it still looked pretty good.

 

That actually make sense...

Toyota is paying about $10K per truck for the frame replacements, no?

 

Yeah that is probably on target, this was close to 20 years ago though. I am guessing the other half of the bill was probably also another 8 or 9 grand too for my truck.

Exactly ten years ago, I probably had less than 2,000 miles on my truck...

Now, I’m exactly 1,048 miles from hitting 110K!
