    yeah i know what you mean about losing the seal on the cover itself if you start modifying it and still having the ability of using the cover to flip up to its upright position.

    Yakima & Thule have rail systems that bolt to the edge of the bed itself, a universal system, that i see people install and use. this system is adjustable and can be moved out of the way to use the flip up cover.

    Going along with what you mentioned in how to mount a cross bar to the bed of the truck, I've compiled a list of stuff, mostly for myself so it's a bit scattered, but might formalize it in another post once i get my system in and inplace;

    this is what i intend to build, you can find it in the TLDR section of that post

    Ha! Looky there. Thanks for helping this TacomaWorld newb navigate a little easier!

    I'll have to research more on the Yakima/Thule systems. I've only been looking at their product stores online, and just assumed from photos that attaching to the inner bed rails are the only option, which didn't look compatible with the BakFlip. Attaching to the bed itself is kind of what I'm looking for in a rail system. Going down the rabbit hole of overland-ing the Tacoma, and want several options to haul gear, sleep in a rooftop tent, etc.

    Thanks for the link to that post, too. Incredible amount of information in there that I'll have to dive into.

    No worries about navigation, i only recently learned it myself :cookiemonster:

    and that post is probably 3 days or so of searching for information and ideas, it's what i feel is exactly what i need in a bed crossbar system. it's surprising how many people have done similar builds the way they have, lots of knowledge out there and i tried to piece together what i liked the most.

    if you find something, share it, but otherwise good luck!

    wondering if you could make the voodoo rack work like this user Did and just bolt it directly to the bedside. or possibly fab up a stronger bracket from underneath the bedside for the voodoo rack. i don't really like the way the mx4 brackets create a floating rack look and can create a spot for water to get in.

    that’s pretty awesome. Did you mount the bracket to the top of the bedside using a similar rivnut method?

    I'm doing a write up about it now - procrastinated for far too long on actually making this, but sort of used rivnuts. just in a non traditional method.
    Used them with fender washers to give me as much surface area as i could get.
