I was driving this morning, pretty early (it was still dark) and i went to park -- I had the fog lights on and I went to turn them off and I accidentally hit the rear differential lock button instead. I was driving about 10 mph and according to the manual, you are not supposed to lock the rear differential while you are moving. Of course i had a sh** attack and came to a complete stop and tried to unlock it, but it would not unlock. I then slowly parked the truck and shut it off. After about 5 min, I turned it back on and the rear differential was unlocked. oh man.

Well the truck seems to run fine. But my question to you is do you think I did any damage?? Im freaking out here. I was debating whether or not to take it to the dealer and have them take a look, but I diddnt want to tell them what I did (potential warranty issues). Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Have you done the "grey Wire Mod yet? If not then your rear diff lock will not engage unless you are in 4Lo and either in neutrel or clutch depressed. Was it blinking or beeping after you tried to engage it?

You have a pre-runner according to your sig, but like banshee said unless you were in neutral or had the clutch depressed, then regardless of your switch press you would not have actually engaged the locker.

Again if the locker light never lit solid, then it also never engaged.

If it did light solid, then I still suspect that you caused no damage so long as you didn't hear any horrible noises or feel any grinding coming from the rear diff.

I suspect that your truck is fine, and I wouldn't worry about it.

It lit solid. and no i diddnt hear any grinding. Thats kind of what I was thinking though; it diddnt feel like it engaged while I was moving. I came to a stop and hit the button again trying to turn it off. The light wouldnt go out and when I started to move from a dead stop, the back tires felt like they were slipping when I accelerated (very slowly mind you). I slowly rolled into a parking space and shut the truck down. When I turned it back on the locker light was out. Anyway, like I said earlier, the truck seems to run fine.

I have done the same thing in my my truck but DON'T WORRY...the rear diff did/will not engage.
I did exactly like you did, and I freaked out too, but my husband-mechanic for 24 yrs-said not to worry as it didn't engage. Yeah, I think the buttons are in the wrong place! Hope this helps :p

From my understanding there is no way to engage the lock unless you are in 4 low unless you have done the grey wire mod. you are fine

Dont know exactly how to do it yet since i havnt done it, but it allows you to lock the rear diff in 4 hi and 2 wheel drive instead of just locking in 4 lo. There is a thread somewhere on this site with instructions. It seems relatively easy but i'm not doing anything like that to my truck till it's out of warranty
