I think he's full of shit. He only half-answers, like it's shit he's googled and not lived. People who actually served don't act like that, or else they don't last long among those who did.

WOW, that thread is a shit show. I will admit I use the hell out of the Home Depot discount and stuff like Oakley's Standard Issue but other than that not so much. I know some people who always hit me up on veterans day like hey bro we are going to 4 places to eat for free are you in. I like to think I have made it to a point in life where I can afford my lunch and would rather not stand in line for an hour looking for a hand out. I am grateful for the companies who offer such things as it might provide a service to someone who needs it but veterans who abuse that shit disgust me.

All it does is cheapen your service. Like people I know who lie and cheat the VA for benefits they should not have. All it does is cheapen and destroy the integrity of the very thing you put your life on the line for and for me it dishonors my fallen brothers. Men who paid that price and gave up everything.

My wife on the other hand! That bitch throws out that expired dependent card like she is at the Ellen show on Christmas eve expecting some shit. I met her at Lowe's to grab a new fridge last year and she had the deal worked up and all we needed to do was pay. I do not have a daily spending limit on my debit card so I handed it over and the lady says "is this the home on (our street name) or (the cross street that runs beside my house). I recognize the address as my wife's friend 8 houses down. My wife says "oh, that's our vacation home so no its this address". I turned around to keep from laughing. As we walked out I thanked my wife for her service (inside joke) and said vacation home huh. She said hey, (friends name) needed a new dishwasher. I replied, well you did live in 29 Palms for three years so you deserve it.

Fuck the chow downs. I avoid those places all the other times of the year too.

My wife asks for the discounts, I don’t bother.

I will admit to using the discount at Lowe's and Home Depot because I drop a ton of coin there...but I avoid the restaurants like the plague.

Not what I wore the uniform for, but thanks for offering.

Yeah I would never throw that out at an eatery. Home Depot, Lowe's. I spend enough there for it to matter and they are large corporations so I have no problem using those. And Standard Issue. That is one of the best benefits going if you like sunglasses, snowboarding helmets and stuff like that.

I still have the Oakley Crosshair 1's I was issued on my last deployment in 2009. Revant Optics makes replacement lenses for those old frames, and they are bad-ass!

No military discount, but $32 to bring life back to awesome old frames? Win!

We don’t wear any of that stuff, no stickers on the car either. I’m down with the fellas that do because most around here are searching for others that were in the same units and the like. It’s just not my thing.

LOL, I am the same way. I do have veteran plates on my truck but I tell people "let your service be part of what makes you who and what you are not the thing that defines you. It is only a part of what has molded you into who you are". People are also shocked when I do not recommend the Marine Corps to young people who are thinking of enlisting. Some people are a walking billboard for that shit. I do not regret being a Marine but there are better options.

No way my dude, not even 6 months. He probably got med boarded out of basic but claims he's a veteran.

You earned the right to wear that. A hat is not a big deal. It's the people who are decked out that crack me up. Plus I am only in my 40's. I think when you get old you have to wear a hat that coincides with your branch. It's a bylaw or something.
