I'm 6ft and 250. I have a Solace pad (out of Jackson, WY); similar to a Paco pad. Best thing I have found for adjustable support. Built like a brick shit house too!

He custom sized/built mine for just a tad above stock size pricing. I have dimensions of you want them - full length, maybe an inch gap on each side and accommodates my bed stiffeners.

This is rad. Super simple and exactly what I want to do. Was the only cutting that you needed to do on the ends where the tailgate comes up?

I am using this currently. Nemo Nomad.

Not bad at all, just would like the feel of foam of some amount. Anything with too much air feels funky when I roll over. Jesus look at the size of that URL!

I use the Exped Synmat Duo M. It fits between the wheel wells, insulates to very cold, has 2 separate compartments, is adjustable on both sides independently, and is comfortable.

damn that's a good price. Craigslist?

I was about to say your truck bed is nicer than my actual bed, but I may be over by just a few dollars.
It has been quite the learning curve. My real mattress is cold this winter (body heat escaping) so I put a blanket and am looking for flannel sheets because I hear they're warmer than regular ones.
It has no expensive topper or anything.
Same goes for the blankets; just ordered another blanket that's sherpa material on the inside and fleece or something on the outside, so supposedly 2 layers.
I don't know if these $60 down comforters would help, or which fill type is best.
It seems I am level 3 of 99 at Adulting Skill
And that's in a home. I'd freeze outside in a truck.
I guess you have more of a challenge on hiding the truck bed rib feeling at the bottom, since a home floor is flat and carpet usually. Not sure if a plywood base layer would help. Home improvement stores usually sell it in 4x8' sheets that they can cut to size for free.

Impressive that you plan to sleep in a shortbed. How?
I find myself wanting a longbed for this purpose, but IDK how many come in stick (or if auto is better), and how useful rear seats are in double-cab vs access or single.

There's one popular YouTube video where a guy built a sleeping thing for his shortbed, that slides/extends out the back to add about 1ft when in use, making it sort of a "longbed".
Will you just be positioned diagonally?

IDK how hard that topper is to paint DIY, or if simple black color would look better.
I heard SnugTop looks and fits the best, but yours looks good.
Supposedly other supporting mods are needed when installing toppers, such as bed stiffeners. I wonder if that's all that's needed.

You can use a Space Blanket to reflect heat back up. We use it under our mattress. I also put a thin, dense, closed cell foam pad under the mattress to tesist damage. Gossamer Gear sells/sold a 41 inch wide version.

Find yourself an army pinch liner aka Woobie for cheap. In fact buy two, they are like $28-40 depending on if it’s surplus or new.
Sleep on one and use the other as a top blanket. If it gets a little warm remove the top woobie off one of your legs, given that you have another sheet/blanket.

Hands down this is one of the best ways to stay warm.

Well after browsing all these pages and getting some really awesome ideas I decided to give it a go myself. It was a fun project and I’m looking forward to finishing it with some wood sealer and carpet another weekend. One thing I would have changed is spending the extra money on some quality plywood. Mine is warped as heck. 4B7C4555-3DE1-43D5-BD81-73F673EF75E3.jpg 2F7F4CB3-F062-4B87-A41E-EB20A84B1082.jpg

I think most folks have come to the conclusion that the woobie is mostly psychological, there are much better products on the market, it just happened to be what the .mil issued so it's what they had in the service. You'd be better off buying some closed cell foam, a wool blanket, a fleece blanket, a thick Mexican blanket or even a thick piece of carpet or some of those cheap anti-fatigue mats from Harbor Freight. You want something that will trap air even when compressed under you, a woobie doesn't do that. A wool or fleece blanket, comforter, etc. will be warmer on top as well and they won't tend to slide off like the slick nylon of the woobie.

Yes, I know I'm not going to convince some of the older die-hard mil guys, but any camping/hiking/RV forum will tell you the same thing. There are some higher quality versions out there that use better materials if you really want to use one.

    Got it off Facebook marketplace

I've laid down in the bed and since I'm only 5'8 I'll just sleep diagonal. I sleep that way anyways.

I'm gonna have it professionally painted most likely

And yeah I'm in the Army so I have army sleep system and a woobie for the cold, the sleep system is rated for negative temps so I'm not worried

Any specific foam store? I found The Foam Factory online and a few other stores.

Also what should I expect to pay for a decent 4" full foam mattress for my 6ft bed. Im seeing between $80 - $270.

    Thanks!

I live in So. Cal.and there are several within a 15 mile range. I sleep in the back of my truck for up to a month at a time on a 4" foam bed that's a bit over 6' long and goes the whole width. I paid $75 for it. Then I had it wrapped in Sunbrella Fabric after I split the foam up for different configurations. Im 6' 200 and 4" does me well and actually got a Queen size for my trailer.

Great thanks! I'm in Montana, so access to foam suppliers is a little more limited. I'll keep searching online and also the surrounding area.
